Dropping foods before Day 1?

My wife and I are hoping to start the 30 day program right after Easter Sunday April 1, so maybe sometime that following week.  In the meantime, would it be helpful (or harmful) to the 30 day reset process to cut back or eliminate a few things, such as pasta, bread, sugary desserts or maple syrup?  Maybe even start adding in some additional fats that are on the program but I usually mostly avoid?

Also I already have the 30-day Guidebook, but would like to read more of the scientific backing.  So is the material in the It Starts with Food available somewhere on the website?

Thanks!

Helpful.  Definitely helpful!  The less inflammatory foods you eat before you start, the less the detox/yuck portion of the program.

The scientific 'why' material in It Starts With Food is only found in the book.  The template, rules, recommendations etc... are all available for free on the website but for anything where you want more indepth explanations, that's where the books come in :)

"It Starts With Food" changed my life.  It sounds like you are well on your way to the benefits of the Whole30, but I can't recommend the book enough.

Thank you for asking this. I'm also going to start after Easter weekend, but am already gluten and soy free. I know I should also be dairy free so I've been thinking about starting this (as well as corn free) before... but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea. I feel awful all the time, so really it can't make me feel worse lol.

I think I'll also read It Starts with Food as well before I start.

Thanks again!

Hi @LaughingSun - the closer you get to whole30 before starting, the easier go you'll have of it. Just remember that if you are pulling out all these items that you need to replace those calories with something; protein, veggies and fat.

Check out the meal template and practice  trying to make your meals match while you're gearing up.

Thanks to all.  We are trying to back off some of the sugar and are already starting to stock up our pantry.  Plus I clarified some butter last night, so we do want to try some of the recipes prior to the full 30Day start.  I just have to be a little careful as I am getting ready to run my first half-marathon on the 18th (at age 61) and am fighting a bad cold.  I did get the "It Starts With Food" on Kindle so I am working my way through that as well.  Fortunately my daughter (and a couple of her friends) just did Whole30 starting in mid January, so she has been able to give me a few tips on where to find food items.  She is running with me on the 18th, but it is her 4th or 5th one, although first since ACL reconstruction last March.  BTW, we are running for Water for Africa with Team World Vision.  https://www.teamworldvision.org/participant/rmcduff
