Banana Flour/Powder

Hi all :D

I've done a search and I can't find anything about whether or not banana flour/powder is allowed. I've just been diagnosed as having the H. Pylori bacteria in my gut and my GP has put me on a raft of antibiotics to kill it. As you can imagine I'm totally gutted (pun intended ;)) that my gut microbiome is about to be decimated. I've researched food pre-biotics and found that banana flour/powder is a great source. My plan is to use a scoop in a smoothie (made with Whole30 compliant ingredients and minimal fruit) to help re-cultivate my gut flora back to the glorious garden it was.

EEP that sucks, sorry to hear that.  While the banana flour (dried crushed up banana?) may be compliant depending on the ingredients, smoothies are generally not recommended and putting that much sugar into your system is probably not the best plan for trying to get a better gut microbiome... You would be better off eating fruits and veggies in their whole form than making a concoction...

Here's a list of some top prebiotic foods (obviously just skip right past the grains).

Here's another list with all compliant items:

  • Onions
  • Leeks
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
  • Coconut Meat & Flour
  • Flax and Chia Seeds
  • Tomatoes
  • Bananas
  • Garlic
  • Chicory Root
  • Dandelion Greens
  • Jerusalem Artichoke
  • Jicama
  • Asparagus
  • Yams

HI there @SugarcubeOD much thanks for the advice.

Maybe I should've added that the  banana flour/powder is green banana flour/powder. Depending on the brand there's no sugar or minimal sugar. It's all about reading the label and making the right decision yeah?

Thank you again :)

Sorry, I didn't mean if there was sugar in the powder, I meant that smoothies aren't recommended because they're often quite fruit heavy and drinking your food is less satiating than chewing a template meal.

:)
