Acer75
Today is Day 1 for my husband and I. We have been Primal for nearly 4 years but in the last year have gotten a bit lax in our food choices We are both generally healthy , active people but have been experiencing some health issues and a sense of not feeling so great lately so we have decided to make the committment and get us back on track and feeling better again! It's not a huge amount of change for us since we gave up grains and sugar for the primal way of eating a while ago ( despite several slips off the wagon most recently) . The biggest challenge for me will be the breakfast ( hard to eat eggs more than once every few days for me) dairy and coffee, more specifically the cheese and half and half I have used in my coffee for years. I am also allergic to shellfish and don't particularlary like most fish. ** Side note- A week ago I switched my creamer from half and half to coconut milk (organic, in the can type) but I am not crazy about it. Do most people on this program just cut out the coffee altogether? Is that recommended for better results? I am also allergic to shellfish and don't particularlary like most fish so that can tend to be a limiting factor for me. It's hard to keep from getting in a rut with what foods to prepare which can then lend itself to slipping off the tracks so lots of planning has been in place in our household for the last several days. The biggest challenge for my husband will be the cheese and the beer I suspect since he's a home brewer.. So here goes nothing.. we are looking forward to the challenge. Tonight's dinner will be the curry chicken and broccoli found on the chowstalker website. It sounds great. We still need to get rid of a few evil food items for the New years eve party that is taking up space in the fridge. So here goes nothing.. we are looking forward to the challenge. kb0426
Welcome! Breakfast never has to be eggs. Leftovers make a perfect breakfast! Planning is key, whether you are a picky eater, someone with allergies, or just need variety. There are SO many recipes out there! As for the coffee, I happen to adore whipped coconut milk in my coffee so it has been easy for me. I have seen folks give it up or just go black. The key to black coffee is drinking GOOD coffee. I think most people are more addicted to their creamer than the coffee! Best to you both!
Acer75
Your right about breakfast but I struggle with eating dinner like meals for breakfast. Steak or chicken with veggies for breakfast just doesn't get me too excited.and I guess I was never one to eat breakfast for dinner iether... For my primal ways...I had been doing the protein shake most mornings with blueberry or strawberry but need to cut back on the fruit for paleo. I was also using Whey Protein Isolate so that is out too.. As for coffee, It is good coffee but I always said if I had to drink coffee black I would give it up. I think I am there..defintely addicted to my half and half..!
Amanda9822
I always thought I would be unable to drink coffee black as well. I found weaning off the sweet in coffee (obviously not a choice right now), and then weaning from half and half, to 2% to skim made it easier to go to black coffee. Also... what I use to think was good coffee might not actually be good coffee once you drink it black. Try a light or medium roast - less bitter. Good luck! Today is my first day too!
