Alldisplaynamestaken
Hi, I am about to begin the whole30 for the first time tomorrow and would appreciate some clarification. I know there has been some things already posted about food additives, but I am a little confused as when I googled, I was getting different results about 'food acid' not always being a 'citric acid'. I'm not sure if this was correct so I wanted to double check. My question is around a jar of crushed garlic that I have. I live in Australia, but I bought this item from Costco and assume the product itself is American as it says '100% Californian garlic' . In the ingredients it lists garlic, water and food acid (330). Can someone please let me know if this is allowed, as I do use this garlic a lot in my cooking. Thank you :)
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 11, 2018 Moderators Share Posted June 11, 2018 It looks like E330 should be okay. Here's a thread with more on E numbers and which to definitely avoid, in case you need it: https://forum.whole30.com/topic/24731-uk-e-numbers-to-avoid/
Alldisplaynamestaken
Hi Shannon, thanks for your reply. Please forgive my little knowledge about this, but does it matter that it doesn't have an 'E' at the start? I think the product is American. laura_juggles
The product may be American, but in order to sell it in Australia, they would likely have to comply with Australia's food labeling rules. The number is listed after "food acid" to specify which one it is. When it says "food acid (330)", it will always be citric acid because any other ingredient would have a different number.
