mspickle610
Ok. I'm not much of a forum person but I'm hoping that by putting this out there it will help to keep me accountable. One of my goals for my 30 is to check-in everyday to give/get support as needed. My family is supportive of this adventure, however, my husband doesn't quite understand the "all or nothing" approach so he doesn't think a slip here or there will matter even when I explain to him why it does. I'm hoping to make him understand as I go through the process. My reasons for doing this, there are many, start with my sugar addiction. That is not hyperbole. It's a fact. One that I have known since high school when I used to drink a Jolt cola and eat a packet of Nerds for lunch. GROSS! I have a long history of sugar/food problems that would take hours to explain. An anorexic sister in high school and a parent who sent me to Weight Watchers in college because I gained 15 pounds. I only weighed 140!! But I'm getting off-topic. I refer to sugar as my personal "hamster-wheel". Once I start, it's oh so difficult to get off. And my holiday was filled with it. So, I have given away all the cookies and candy. My achilles will be whether to make a paleo treat or not. I am not above taking the time to cook something just to satisfy the craving so I know this will be tough. But I am determined and I will ask for help when I need it. And I will. Being that this is my first day I feel optimistic about my food choices. Three eggs served on top of sauteed kale and a dollop of sweet potato puree was filling and I really like starting my day with vegetables. And I actually have the rest of my meals for the next 2 days planned out or already made. Thanks to the holiday vacation I have time to cook! Anyway, this is only day 1 and I know there are challenges ahead. But I think it's going to good. Thanks for listening.
ladyhoward
Welcome mspickle610! I understand where you're coming from, as do many others on this forum. I wish you the best of luck on your journey! Many of us are struggling and/or recovering sugar addicts as well - that is some NASTY stuff I tell ya - so you have plenty of company here. kshacklett
I'm loving starting my day with vegetables, too! As much as I love to cook, breakfast used to be sort of a forgotten meal for me - I might spend an hour and a half making a healthy, well rounded dinner; but breakfast would be a granola bar in the car. Lately, I've been enjoying sweet potatos, apples, and sausage with some greens. I'm on day 1 too - keep up the great work!
kb0426
mspickle, Welcome! I think it will help you to know on the whole30, there are no struggles with making paleo-fied treats. They are out . There are so many of us that get the hamster-wheel affect, and know that the paleo treats will only feed into that. whole30 is not just about what you can and can't eat - it is about changing your relationship with food. You got this!
mspickle610
Thanks all! Yes, I have learned that paleo-izing sweet stuff wreaks havoc with my diet. It's all sugar, afterall and has the same effect as if I'm eating a chocolate bar. @kshacklett I will be stealing that breakfast idea. Sounds yummy. And best of luck to you too. I think the support of these forums will play a big role in our success. Looking forward to keeping up with everyone when I can. I work 2 jobs (50 hours a week) right now so that will be a challenge, but I am going to set aside a time to read up. Enjoy your day!

kshacklett
Here's the actual recipe. I used 2 medium sweet potatos, 3 links of sausage, and 2 smaller apples - makes enough to feed me for about 4 days.
