Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea: Dessert in Disguise?

I've been eating a paleo diet for 3 months and started my first Whole 30 today. Until today, I have been enjoying several (3-4) cups of delicious Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice black tea per day. I hate to say I've become rather obsessed with this darn tea. I don't sweeten it, but it does have an incredibly sweet, cinnamon-y flavor all on its own. However, one of the main reasons I'm doing a Whole 30 is to break my sugar cravings, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm using the tea as a dessert replacement of sorts? Do you think it's safe to keep drinking it or should I switch to a less flavorful tea during my Whole 30?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Kristen

Honestly, this is a call you have to make on your own. We aren't trying to suck every ounce of enjoyment out of your food and beverage choices during these 30 days. There are some VERY juice-like teas, that are totally compliant, and under normal circumstances/use, are totally fine. If you think even for a second that you're using this tea to prop up your sugar cravings, you owe it to yourself to see what life is like without it. IMO, any food choice that you could say you've "become rather obsessed with," is a food you need to ditch for a while.

It's your call, but if you just need somebody to tell you to do what you already know, then I'm happy to be the meanie that says you have to ditch it, though! :)

You are mostly likely addicted to the caffeine in the tea BUT my husband used a very very similar herbal tea from Celestial Seasons to break his pop addiction. He drank 3+ teas a day at first. I have tried it and while it is compliant, it is sweet! He has one a day now that he is off pop (and on day 32 compliant!)

If you can personally say that you are using it as a crutch, I would cut back or stop. It sounds like you *might* be using it as dessert sub which means although it's compliant, it is taking the place of sweets.

Up to you, but based on what you said you could switch to something less likely to hit that button in your brain.

Was that Bengal Spice by Celestial Seasonings by any chance? I love that stuff and I also used it to break my coke zero addiction a few years ago.
