Mel Black
This is my first whole 30. My husband and I officially started 1/1 and I was going to post about my first two successful days on plan...until I started poking around the forum. Now I understand why this place is so important! What has me off plan so early in the game? Almond Milk, butter and soybean oil. It's not a big deal. Thankfully I figured these out pretty early on and I made the connection between the organic butter/ghee after going through some of the posts about what is and isn't ok to eat. Oh well, onward and upward!

Kirsteen
Well done for realising so early in the W30 that they were non-compliant. I'd just add a day or two on at the end to give you a completely clean W30. good luck
Mel Black
Thanks for the feedback...I know it isn't that big of a deal, but it feels major some of my cravings have been pretty intense. I was reading a steamy trash book last night ( I read before bed) and the most explicit parts were the ones that talked about the spaghetti and meatball dinner topped off with red wine. I will admit that I was up at 3am craving sweets/bread. Food as porn..who knew? hahaha
Mel Black
Things that I am grateful for after another successful day: TopoChico with an orange twist and bananas smothered in almond butter. I woke up at 3am with the most raging sugar cravings…I could not get back to bed and my stomach was growling. I got up and had a glass of water, but it didn't seem to help. I finally broke down and had a banana smothered in almond butter. It was so good that I had a second one, and then thankfully I was able to go back to sleep. I didn't have any fruit the day before and I figure and extra fruit serving is better than going off plan. On a side note I took my 8 year old son to the grocery store with me today. He noticed that I was reading labels and putting more stuff back on the shelf and not very much was making it into the basket. After watching me read ALL of the labels on ALL of the beef jerky bags that I store had to offer (not all, but at least all of the Pepper flavor) he asked what my problem was I explained that they all had sugar. He spent the rest of the trip helping me pick our food. After a going through the list for a couple of items, he threw his hands in the air exasperated and loudly exclaimed “ UGHH, SUGAR IS IN EVERYTHING!! THIS STUFF ISN'T EVEN SWEET!!!†I know, son, I know.
Mel Black
I made it through the last few days, albeit by the skin of my teeth. My youngest daughter was admitted into our local children's hospital with a UTI that escalated into a kidney infection, which was giving her some scary high fevers. We went into the E.R. on Sunday at 5am and I just made it home tonight. Thankfully she is on the mend and back to her normal sassy self. After she was admitted into her room, I came by the house to pick up some things to make our stay a little more comfortable. I packed her snuggie, extra clothes, her Minnie Mouse, and some other small comforts. For me I packed extra clothes, soap, a toothbrush and my Kindle. Thankfully I had stocked the fridge with leftovers Friday and Saturday for lunch meals in my fridge. These came with me. I also made a big sausage and egg scramble. These came too. I also packed my coconut milk, a couple of Larabars, and a few apples, oranges, and an avocado. Thankfully the floor that I was on had a parent's fridge and I was going to take full advantage. I was self-conscious when I packed this all up and finally made my way back to my daughter's room. I am glad to say that I was really glad that I took all of that extra stuff. My husband had to come home to take our son to school and having my meals there was super convenient since I didn't want to, and really couldn't, leave my daughter alone. She's a few weeks shy of three and was freaked out beyond belief. I leaned a little heavily on the fruit and Larabars, wasn't able to sleep well, drank a few too many cups of coffee and there was a lunch time meal of pepper beef from the cafeteria that was a little questionable, since I am pretty sure that it was most likely cooked with vegetable oil. I am still proud of myself though. I avoided the snack machines, even after I had lucid dreams about croissants and cinnamon rolls. I didn't put creamer or sweetener in my coffee and I didn't let the stress triggers throw me off course. I rewarded myself this evening by going to the local health food store and buying some pre-made ghee. I'd been planning on making some myself, but I decided to give myself a break and bought some. I used it in the mashed sweet potatoes that were a side to my dinner of free range chicken thighs and steamed broccoli. It was totally on plan, and yes it was delicious. Kirsteen
I'm so glad, she's on the mend, it's scary when they're really ill at that age. Well done you for how you coped under really difficult circumstances. I also had to smile at your son in the supermarket. When my kids were little, I used the exclamation *Sugar!* as a bit of a swear word to avoid saying 'Shit!' in front of them. My son's now 24 and a few weeks ago we were in the supermarket and I was reading labels on jars, saying 'sugar' and putting them back. He turned to me and said "Are you saying they all contain sugar, or are you just swearing?" both, son, trust me, both.
