Michelle Hartlmeier
I'm 25 years old and have never gone on any kind of diet and never really looked into what I was eating. I just ate what looked and sounded good, while also on the less expensive side. Big mistake. After knowing a few people who have mentioned Paleo (and have now mentioned Whole30), my eyes have really opened up to the negative things I was ingesting. I have plenty to learn about this new way of life. I'm a bit scared, nervous, excited, and at times - feel absolutely dumb. I'm a bit of a picky eater and not always open to try new things, but that's part of why I feel excited and nervous at the same time. I know, probably weird to feel nervous about food, but it's more the matter of if I make something and not like it, will I just go back to my old habits? I cleaned out my cabinet and fridge/freezer of food. My husband took most of the "naughty" foods to work to share with co-workers or use up there. He is willing to do this with me, but as long as it is out of the house, I am a-okay if he wants to sneak in different foods while at work. This is more of my battle, but his support while at home is very much appreciated. He actually went grocery shopping with me last night! I can't remember the last time he willingly went with me for the "big shopping" trip. So that's my intro. I'm from Wisconsin. It's winter. And I live in more of the "country" then "city". Hoping to still source out good places for food since my local grocery store didn't have everything I was looking for. Looking forward to working on my own garden in the spring and checking out local farmer's markets. Who knows, maybe I will surprise myself and try some of those vegetables I always give horrible faces when they are even mentioned! Here's to a healthy and successful 2013! kb0426
Welcome! If you have ever made a face at brussels sprouts, you have never had them roasted in coconut oil . Enjoy the adventure!
Amanda9822
Great job starting! It's my first big diet too ) I have found over the last few years that vegetables can be an acquired taste. Play around with different combinations. Last night I made a spicy califlour and sweet potato side that was amazing. I never would have thought to put spicy with sweet potatos, but it was great! I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to go for it. The worst that can happen is you find out you actually don't like something - great! You never have to eat it again ) @kb0426 - I've never eaten brussel sprouts I like but I will try that! Good luck to you!
CSB1960
A recipe book I really like is Practical Paleo, lots of veggie recipes,oh and Everyday Paleo cook book. Some recipes aren't 100% whole 30 compliant, but many are. I would not have tried brussel sprouts if not for these books. Nom Nom Paleo is a great website for veggie recipes too
