tamcot68
My husband is having gastric bypass at the end of March the diet he has to follow 2 weeks prior is strict, to ease into he agreed to do the Whole 30. Problem he is a picky eater ( basically we eat the same 4 things for dinner every week), it took me over an hour last night showing him recipes to finally get him to consistent to 3 Whole 30 recipes for dinner this week. It is going be lonnnng month (and serious test of our marriage).
xx_firefly
All I can say is wow.....that is one heck of a story...... Anywho (just my two cents), have you gone over the (compliant) foods and base meals off of that? With the power of something like google, I'm sure you can do things like "tomato & spinach whole30 recipes" (for example) and find a lot of recipes. I wish you two well on your journey! SchrodingersCat
That's hard - what do you mean by picky? Whole 30 is actually really good for 'plain' eaters - doing the old meat and three veg is easy! If you tell us what's on his 'yes' list, maybe we can help? tamcot68
He doesn't like a lot of meats or fish. We are sort of vegetarians because he doesn't like a lot of meat products. Bread and creamy soups are his thing. Corn Chowder, baked potato soup, etc.
SchrodingersCat
He might be a good candidate for 'hidden vegetables' - pots of hearty soups and other dishes that have lots of veg blended in. Think compliant potato soup but with cauliflower added in, egg bakes (does he like eggs?) with grated veggies... Under "Resources" on this site there's a PDF for vegetarian Whole 30ers, and the Vegetarian section of this forum also has lots of good conversation - it might not be recent, but the old threads can still be really useful! tamcot68
Loves eggs. His favorite dinner is the British dish, of eggs, toast and beans. Any one pot meal soups or casseroles are favorites. Thank you!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted February 19, 2019 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2019 I don't know if it would work for him, but when I make creamy soups, I'll mix ground meat into them to get my protein. It's still noticeable but maybe it would be helpful? I usually just heat up a serving of meat and add it to a serving of soup, rather than making a whole thing of soup with meat in, just so i can still have the soup as a side if I'm having a different protein. I make a butternut squash soup similar to this one a lot: https://reciperunner.com/curried-butternut-squash-cauliflower-soup/, and sometimes this: http://meljoulwan.com/2012/10/24/golden-cauliflower-soup/. If hiding the texture of meat helps, something like these salmon patties might work: http://meljoulwan.com/2014/11/10/oven-fried-salmon-cakes/ -- they do freeze well, so if you make them and he doesn't care for them, you can freeze them for yourself for times when you need something easy to fix.
