Polycystic Kidney Desease renal diet and Whole30

Recommended Posts

Is Whole30 compatible with a renal diet for Polycystic Kidney Disease?  There are a few key differences that I see.  Anyone have experience merging the two?  I searched the Whole30 site and did not see how to easily overlay one over the other for the combination.

Thanks,

Jon

With something like this, it is really important to work with your doctor or nutritionist to be sure you get everything right.

Some parts of whole30 look like they'll work well for you -- there's a focus on vegetables and fruit, and a focus on preparing food from scratch which makes it easier to watch sodium levels. You'll need to watch protein serving sizes, and it looks like there are some vegetables you'll need to limit. Advice that we tend to give here on the forum like drinking more water or salt your food, you'd ignore and follow the guidelines from your doctor. So basically it seems like it could be possible to combine the two, but your focus should be on following your doctor's instructions. If they're recommending something that is totally counter to whole30, you can always ask if there are alternatives, but if there's not, go with the doctor's instructions.
