Polysorbate is an emulsifier - an agent that allows the compounds in the product to bind themselves together to make the product thicker. (Like mustard in an oil and vinegar dressing but a whole lot less natural!)

Allowed on W30 but, like so many chemical additives, are they safe? I don't think that was your question though so I'll walk away now.

As @Lorna from Canada says, it's technically compliant but much better if you can find one without.
