got the munchies!

Hi everyone

So, I'm currently on my 5th day of the whole 30 and I'm so far feeling really good! Aside from one problem.. Because I work in a office environment and cannot pick and choose my lunch breaks, my lunch time is at 11:30 and I don't have dinner until 7..

This meaning that in the time between 12 and 7 I get pretty hungry!!

I'd love some suggestions on what the best things to munch on would be between lunch and dinner. I'm not STARVING to the point I need an entire meal, but something to sustain me until dinner would be great!

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

:):D

That is a long time between meals. It has been suggested that it's best to have a mini meal. So..how about tuna or egg salad over spinach? Maybe skip the tuna if it's too stinky for the office. Slices of beef with homemade mayo wrapped in lettuce.

I agree...a mini meal is in order. When I have long days like that and know I'll have a long stretch between meals, I usually bring some hard boiled eggs (already peeled) and some red bell pepper slices. Sometimes I also eat homemade beef jerky. Anything with a little protein and fat should help hold you until you get home at 7. You could try making these egg cups. The recipe makes 12 and they will keep in the fridge for a whole week. I eat two at a time for a mini meal.

I have a similar problem, except my long stretch is in the morning (I rise at 5 am and eat breakfast, but I don't break for lunch until 12.30 or later). Is it poor form to have berries or bone broth as a snack? How much is too much green tea and water to try to distract from the hunger pangs? Are hunger pangs normal on this plan? I think I am eating enough for breakfast - for example, today was crustless quiche with carrot and zucchini and steamed green beans with dairy-free cilantro-walnut pesto plus a cup of coffee with full fat coconut milk.

Bone broth is a good snack but fruit is generally better when eaten as part of a meal rather than as a snack. Your best choice for a snack would be something with fat and protein. Hard boiled eggs are great for snacks. No, you shouldn't have hunger pangs--you may totally need to eat more than 3 meals a day and that's okay. If you feel hungry enough for something like fish/broccoli/chicken, then you are truly hungry and you should eat. If you are hungry but the only thing that sounds good is fruit...it might be a bit of a sugar craving.

I think it's great to make sure you are well hydrated (with your green tea and water) because sometimes we think we are hungry when actually we are thirsty. However, if you are fully hydrated and still hungry, eat :)
