I think I'm going to start a new one tomorrow morning. I'm feeling a whole lot of resistance to starting :/ Well, whether it is the right time is always a hard decision... I was so sure I was going to start earlier this month and it took me awhile to work up to it. I always try to look at success stories when I’m feeling down on myself. Jihanna
21 hours ago, Emma said: ...to eat that breakfast I don't like eating. Meatballs, though - I'd eat meatballs for breakfast! I don't like "breakfast" type foods most of the time. The mere idea of eggs cooked any way except boiled usually makes my stomach turn, so it's pretty rare that I'll be in the mood for anything that resembles what the rest of my family thinks of as "breakfast". HOWEVER! Leftovers from the night before are perfectly acceptable as a breakfast to me, so I'll often find myself munching down on meatloaf or meatballs or pork chops or even barbecue chicken at 6-7 in the morning. These things make me happy at that hour of the day
Amy_Michigan
Day 2 I made my crockpot sweet potato soup last night and I’m enjoying a large bowl of it this morning with chicken mixed in. I had the most vivid dream last night... my dream was that me and the kids went to my aunt and uncle’s house to visit, and it turned out that they had gotten me a present...a male prostitute that looked like Thor!!!!!!! But I had the kids, so the first night we just had a big sleep over in the living room of my Aunt’s house with “Thor” and our own sleeping bags. Then the next day as soon as I had some “me” time away from my kids (Maybe they left with Aunt and Uncle somewhere?), I took Thor to my Aunt and Uncle’s bedroom! Too bad I can’t remember much detail after that point...LOL A little background. I’m married. I have a husband. Shouldn’t be sleeping with male prostitutes or anyone other than my husband... but I remember thinking in my dream- You only live once, right??? Living it up!!!! —- So, here is my plan for the day: M1: Sweet potato soup with chicken M2: I don’t think we have ground beef, so I might do a few eggs and I still have to decide on the veggies...I’m a little slow this morning after that dream lol M3: Tuna patty and roasted veggies I may completely change this plan and do something else, so I’ll update my log later. Have a good Saturday everyone!
Amy_Michigan
Day 2 cont. My lunch. I worked it out and used 2 frozen mini bubba burgers instead of cooked ground beef for the zucchini spaghetti and meat sauce.
Amy_Michigan
End of Day 2 UPDATE: - M2 (zucchini "kinda" spaghetti with meatballs) was delicious but I was rushed eating it because I had to take the kids to dance class and also the sauce was taking forever to cool down. I made it with 2 zucchinis...that was definitely enough. Filled my bowl right up. - Ended up getting a mild headache that was horrible by around 5pm. Just wanted to lie in bed in the dark and not eat anything the rest of the day, but I ended up getting Tylenol, and Hoogling what foods you should eat to get rid of a headache. I ended up making myself a tuna salad dinner even though that was the last thing I wanted, and I put salt on it. - So M3 was a can of tuna mixed with red onion, celery, and a generous salt sprinkling. -Then I had a banana (for magnesium) and a cup of coffee. Finished eating around 6:30 and finished by coffee around 6:45...and at almost 7:30 I'm happy to say that my headache is almost completely gone. Usually, Tylenol doesn't work for my headaches. So happy it's going away!!!
Amy_Michigan
Day 2 cont. Oops forgot to write that I had a random cup for frozen strawberries and a bowl of cucumber slices with chicken as a snack when I got home from taking the kids to dance classes. I ate the zucchini lunch around 11 and these snacks were around 2.
Amy_Michigan
Day 3 M1: sweet potato basil soup with chicken M2: Roasted carrots (aka carrot fries), applegate beef burger blended with mushrooms, lettuce/cucumber/grape tomatoes Survived taking the kids to church and then Subway for their lunch without partaking in anything except La Croix water and black coffee. Yay me.
Amy_Michigan
Struggled tonight feeling really stressed making dinner for my family and then my dinner last. I have this whole plan to try to finish eating my dinners by 6pm (trying this because I got interested in intermittent fasting), and there I was at 5:55 making a yogurt and strawberry dessert for my kids because they had already finished their dinner... I was literally sweating over a hot stove and trying to make sure I didn’t ruin my dinner that was still on the stove while I was sidetracked. It’s only like this on the weekends. My husband works all day Saturday and a Sunday so I’m feeding my kids’ bottomless pit tummies all day long on the weekends. Their ages are 5 and 7. Weekdays are easier because they usually eat with my husband before I get home from work around 6pm. Now my husband is done working and I basically said to leave me alone for a while. I’m in my room with the door closed recovering from making food.
Amy_Michigan
So it’s still early in my whole30 (day 3) and I hadn’t taken body measurements so I did. It is against the rules of of the program to take any measurements or weig yourself, but I did it anyway because I thought it would be important to see where so started. I was completely stunned to see how big I had really become. It’s like...I look in the mirror but I don’t really “look-look”. I stood in front of the bathroom mirror a LONG time taking the measurements, looking at the reflection to read the measuring tape and I couldn’t even believe my eyes. Well...at least I won’t be gaining any more weight in the near future if I stay on track with my healthier eating. Man it really does suck to not be at least partly in denial anymore. But hey...more motivation to make this whole30 a success.

But hey...more motivation to make this whole30 a success. It sure does!!! I like that denial place. And it's also a healthy place because we don't need to be walking around giving ourselves grief the entire time. We're doing a lot of other things each day that are also important (like raising kids!!!). But yeah...the data isn't always so fun. But super good you did it! It takes guts to face that information. And yep - you're here - and you're already a smigden healthier than if you'd postponed things another week.
Amy_Michigan
Day 4 So, I woke up totally unmotivated. Didn't want to go to work..pondered requesting a PTO day last minute but couldn't think of a good excuse. Also didn't want to put my breakfast together or warm anything up. But I did all of those things. I warmed up my sweet potato soup, warmed up a turkey patty that I cooked over the weekend, and put together a lunch of a chicken salad and a BIG bowl of fresh veggies. And I went to work. In order to eat raw broccoli I am going to have to go scavenging for some dip or dressing that is whole30 compliant at the health food store around the block from my work. I really hope I find something. I did not have it in me to make homemade paleo ranch over the weekend, unfortunately. Maybe that will be a goal for next weekend. Here is my log- Day 3, Meal 3 yesterday: Zucchini noodles, ground beef and compliant tomato-basil pasta sauce Day 4, Meal 1: Sweet Potato Basil Soup, Applegate Blended Turkey-Mushroom Burger/compliant ketchup, and an apple Meal 2 Plan: Dark Meat Chicken Salad with celery, red onion, and lots of mayo. Wanted to try putting this over cucumber but I ran out. Raw broccoli, and grape tomatoes. Plus some sort of dip (crossing my fingers) that I'll find at a health food store Meal 3 Plan: Tuna patty with almond flour, eggs, and onion. Unsure of what frozen veggie option I will chose to prepare. Oh- and just a sidenote - it had been a couple of days I think, but today I finally went #2. Not the most normal of #2s, but I think my body is adjusting to intermittent fasting (if you want to call it that). I'm eating between the hours of 7:30-6 which is 10.5 hours. That is much longer than traditional intermittent fasters. I'm also taking a probiotic, but I started that several weeks before starting my whole30 so I'm not adjusting to that. Hopefully things normalize soon. I need to start looking at preparing meals that keep the skin on veggies and potatoes for more fiber. Also will look into what veggies typically just have more fiber in them.
Emma
I'd have stayed home from work too if I could have! Mondays! You're doing good though. Good foods, good schedule, good poop!
Amy_Michigan
So I went to the store (Better Health) and found a large selection of whole30 salad dressing. Yaaaaay! I picked up ranch for veggie dipping, even though I wanted to buy all of them. I actually took the last ranch on the shelf! Today is my lucky day
BabyBear
@Amy_Michigan when I’m feeling like a need a little extra help in the fiber department I fix a mug of hot water with juice from half a lemon and two tablespoons of chia seed. I let it sit for 5-10 min to let chia seed swell and then enjoy it while I relax with a good book or bubble bath before bed.

Amy_Michigan
Done with day 4! Made a tuna patty, but I rushed it so it turned into scrambled eggs with tuna mixed in. Eating my packed side dish veggies I brought to lunch (mostly raw broccoli) didn't work out since I went to the store after I ate my chicken salad for lunch. Then, I was going to have them for dinner with the ranch and determined that this ranch is not going to be adequate for dipping purposes...It's better suited for salad. Now, if I had made homemade paleo ranch I would have eaten the raw broccoli right up, but without it, it was inedible (at least to me). So I put them in the fridge and got out freezer broccoli. Steamed them in the microwave and added some ghee and ate it all up. Yum. Will have to roast the broccoli tomorrow before it starts to go bad. I drank some coffee after dinner, and after we tucked the kids in, my husband and I watched an episode of The Witcher on Netflix. Afterwards, I watched the entire Netflix documentary on Taylor Swift my myself. Haha. I kind of knew a lot of the stuff about her already, but it was still interesting to see her progression from child to adult. She is only 3 years younger than I am, so we're both millennials. I don't follow her music, but I've heard all of her popular stuff as it came out on the radio over the years. The one thing that really struck me about the documentary was when she said, how can she plan to have kids when the next 2 years of her life basically gets planned out for her, like where she is going to be touring etc. Makes me appreciate that I plan my own life out and have control of the path I take. *Forgot to mention that on Day 3 (yesterday night), I went to bed with a really dry mouth, even though I have been drinking a large amount of water. I drank even more water during the night because of it! Weird. Seems a bit better tonight.
Amy_Michigan
Day 5 M1 at 7:30 AM: Sweet potato basil soup and chicken M2 at 4:00 PM: Applebee's Grilled chicken with 2 helpings of steamed broccoli (without butter). Finished with a banana. I am running out of food! All I brought for lunch today was a tiny amount of ground beef and broccoli (both leftovers from other meals) and some fruit. Decided just to skip eating that food for lunch because it did not sound appetizing at all- plus I was pretty busy today. I need to get appetizing food to eat, STAT. I wanted to wait a whole week before doing getting another huge grocery bill, but it is not happening. I should get food tonight because there is going to be a snowstorm tomorrow. I conquered a work meeting this morning that I wanted to skip soooooo bad, but everything turned out okay. I'm alive. It didn't kill me, even though waiting in anticipation for over a half hour before they got to me to ask me my project updates made me very anxious. Besides waiting 8.5 hours between meals (oops), today is going okay! Will probably have a mini meal when I get home (maybe that pathetic bowl of beef & broccoli) Haha. Amy_Michigan
Day 6 I hurried up after my last post and scheduled a grocery delivery, and it came last night! YAY!!!! This time I ordered 2 lb carrots instead of 1 lb and a couple more cucumbers than I did last time. Instead of fresh broccoli and green beans, I ordered a bag of chopped fresh brussel sprouts and a bag of shredded broccoli/carrot/(cabbage)? slaw. I remember a few years back, I put that broccoli slaw in the skillet with oil and softened the veggies a bit into a wonderful side dish. I can't wait to try it again. Here is my full grocery list from my order: Sweet Potato Garnet Organic, 6 Carrot Loose Organic, 2.0 lb Apple Honeycrisp Organic, 5 Celery Organic, 1 Bunch 365 Everyday Value, Organic Broccoli Slaw, 12 oz Applegate, The Great Organic Turkey & Mushroom Blend Burger, 16oz Organicgirl Romaine Heart Leaves, 7 oz 365 Everyday Value, Shaved Brussels Sprouts, 12 oz 365 Everyday Value, Organic Coconut Milk, 13.5 fl oz, 2 cans Cucumber Green Organic, 5 Applegate, The Great Organic Beef & Mushroom Blend Burger, 16oz My husband picks up chicken and beef from other stores when he goes for his usual "milk, bread, eggs" grocery run, and we still have cans of tuna left, so I should be good in the meat department. I feel prepared to finish off Week 1 of my W30 and start Week 2. I'm sad that I haven't eaten my broccoli or green beans from last weeks grocery order yet. I'm running out of time- I hope they are still good! The problem is that I don't have time to preheat the oven, prep the vegetables, and roast them when I get home from work. So, if I want roasted veggies, I HAVE to do it on weekends. At least I have that figured out now. Here is a picture of my sweet potato soup with chicken this morning: And here is a picture of my lunch I packed for today. My husband cooked some ground beef up for me last night, and I added chili powder & cumin to it, threw it over lettuce, and packed compliant salsa and a little bit of extra virgin olive oil. I'm pretty sure I've accepted the taste of EVOO as long as it can be drowned out in something else (in this case, salsa, or for salad I drown it out with balsamic vinegar taste)
Emma
Wow - you go girl! That all looks and sounds great. I can't believe I'd forgotten about ordering food online and then picking it up. I could do that super easy peasy and then we'd have everything we need. Duh!! Do you ever use the Tessamae's Salad Dressings? I think you can go to their site and find a store near you. We only have one store that sells their products, but their Lemon Garlic salad dressing is really good AND it's really good drizzled over anything and everything else like fish that's too dry or ground beef that is tasteless and boring. I even take it to restaurants with me so I can use it there on their salads. Life is SO much better. Your sweet potato soup looks great! Everything looks great! You're so on top of things!!! You're so on top of things!!! @Emma - I am actually really spoiling myself. I figured out when I started my W30 that if I joined amazon prime, I could have free food delivery to my front door through their partnership with Whole Foods. Yes, I'm lucky- I have a Whole Foods in my town. So, I *think* my husband has been leaving a tip for them, but other than that it just comes with prime ($14/month)! I am beyond ecstatic that I can make this W30 so easy with 2020s technology/services LOL... and Whole Foods does carry Tessamea's so I am going to have to try some! Amy_Michigan
I have my first NSV to report! I started my period today and I didn't have ANY cramps leading up to it. I felt completely normal, except for snapping at my husband once or twice in the past few days (and then being like- why did I just use my "mean" voice for no reason?) I have a history of debilitating cramps- missing school, missing work, laying in bed trying to shut out the pain by taking meds and constantly changing positions like a baby in the womb. Granted, they haven't been that bad since before my first pregnancy (going through labor/delivery is good for more than just having kids), but they have been bad enough to still need to take something for the pain. I can't believe I felt nothing. Total awesomeness!
Amy_Michigan
Dinner! I ate way more than a thumb size of fat at each meal today...definitely going to try to make some adjustments tomorrow. This chicken salad was the only fast meal I could think of. Next week I want to try to have some meals prepped in advance that just need to be reheated.
Emma
Your dinner looks delicious. I'd invite myself over Congratulations on the NSV - that's a pretty sweet one - and pretty powerful. I'm amazed at how responsive our bodies are. The amazon prime thing is pretty sweet. We do not have a Whole Foods in our town but our local market does the orders and we only have to drive up and they bring it out. It's pretty nice in its own way - though right to your door....that's kinda heavenly!
Amy_Michigan
Day 7 I was sooo stressed last night and I couldn't even watch TV so I just went to bed early. Laid there for awhile, but eventually fell asleep. M1: I ran out of my sweet potato soup, so I had a blueberry larabar for breakfast. I'm having coffee now, even though caffine is supposed to make cramps more likely during a period. We'll see what happens. M2: I packed the same thing as yesterday, taco salad (beef & romaine lettuce with EVOO and salsa). Also packed an apple. Forgot to pack more veggies, so I will have to go crazy with veggies for dinner to get some more servings in today. M3 Plan: HMMMMMM. I should go home early today by around 4:30 so I can make myself some roasted veggies. If the broccoli is still good, I will roast that. If not, I will put the broccoli slaw in a skillet with some oil (not sure if I will use avocado oil or Bertolli light tasting olive oil- what do you guys think?) I usually only use light tasting olive oil when I make Whole30 mayo, but I have occasionally used it for roasting veggies since it is good for high temps and tasteless. There are probably healthier/less processed options though. I don't know why oils are so tricky. And I don't know why EVOO has to taste so much worse than everything else! I always have to worry about it ruining the flavor of my food. Also, why does it have to be the healthiest option when you can't cook at high temps with it? I have oil frustration. Anyway, to go along with my veggies, I will probably cook up a frozen Applegate beef-mushroom blended burger. I will have a much longer post to write tonight probably, as long as I'm not too busy cooking after the kids go to bed. I plan to make another crockpot full of sweet potato basil soup to last another week.
