nikkinoodle
Hello. So this is my first post on here and I am currently on my 5th day. I have a few questions.... I have a mango a day with my compliant lunch at work. The mango probably equates to 2 serves of fruit...is this ok? My main liquid choice is iced herbal tea, that i brew myself from natural leaves. These are also fruity flavors is this an issue? Now the big one....i had a teaspoonful of chocolate tart yesterday and then an extra egg slice (that i made for breakfast which is compliant) I was starving and before i made the decision to eat the egg slice i had the tart. This was also before a big training session....Does this equal a restart Sorry for all the questions! I am battling the sugar demons very well up to the stupid tart. Lisa@SwissPaleo
The fruit (as part of a meal) is most likely okay and I think the tea is okay as well. It's the chocolate tart that might mean you should start again. I'm sure one of the moderators can tell you for sure. The big workout session doesn't cancel the tart At least you stopped at one teaspoon---I'd probably end up eating the whole thing if I got started! nikkinoodle
Thanks Lisa.... O haha I meant that was it ok to have the extra food before the big training session.... If only it could cancel out the tart!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted January 8, 2013 Moderators Share Posted January 8, 2013 Yeah, Lisa's right. The fruit and the tea is okay, but taking a bite of chocolate tart represents you deciding to abandon your Whole30. I think you need to restart. gAdina
This is my second attampt at a Whole30. I live Paleo pretty well at about an 85/15, there's something in my head that needs to change though. Most obviously since I decided to eat an entire package of milk chocolate covered cookies last night! A restart is in order but, How do I fight the chocolate moster? b-rad
Would appreciate words of wisdom from anyone, but more importantly a moderator... Before I started the Whole30 I was taking unflavored Modern BCAA after exercise. No added ingredients. I forgot that I had mixed half a batch of the same brand but in White Raspberry (dumping it into the unflavored can). I took a scoop after working out Saturday and Sunday. Monday I realized when I checked the ingredients that there could have been and probably were added ingredients in the White Rasp. Much to my chagrin the very last ingredient in "Other Ingredients" is Sucralose. I know I and only I own my whole 30, but does this equal restart? 2nd question is, is this enough to distort my results? I didn't ask my server if the red wine vinegar I had on Saturday included added sulfites either. I let my guard down thinking "wow this isn't so hard" and got bit twice without even knowing it until days later.
Robin Strathdee
b-rad - what day are you on? There's a chance that you won't experience much derailment from the sucralose, especially in such a small amount. My suggestion is usually to tack a few days on at the end to cover it. gAdina - next time the urge hits, try some activity. Maybe a walk or some air squats? b-rad
Thanks Robin - What I've found is that I've put too much pressure on myself to achieve the PERFECT Whole30. What good are all of these changes if I'm stressing myself out!? I appreciate the feedback! I went a little OCD at the beginning with all of this. This happened on day 5 and 6 in what amounts to approx1/4 of a serving of the white rasp each day
Jo Robinson
Today I learned that raw unsalted cashews make me gassy, crampy and bloated like gluten. Granted, I went overboard with them cause they were just so darn good. Either that or I am way more sensitive to gluten than I thought since these were not labeled gluten free, but possibly processed in a plant where cross contamination could happen. Do I need a restart and make it a point to also stay away from nuts as well? This is the first time I've had this issue since I started the Whole30. melbournegirl
cashews are higher in fodmaps than other nuts (although all nuts are a moderate source), fodmaps are poorly digested carbs that some people are sensitive to (wheat also contains fodmap carbs) so maybe you are reacting to an overdose of fodmap carbs.... I react if I eat too many nuts but I dont restart my whole30 as long as the reaction subsides within a day or so
Jo Robinson
thanks! hopefully I will settle down today. I stayed compliant all day yesterday, but could have made better choices. I did eat a LOT of cashews. This is really kind of neat to be able to pinpoint what is bothering me. I've always had gut issues; my appendix burst when I was 20 and it wasn't taken out for 3 days after is ruptured. I always though my issues when back to that incident. I'm 44 now and for the first time in 24 years I and cramp, gas and bloat free. No one in the traditional medical community ever suggested I change my diet like this. If only I had known before now! melbournegirl
Yeah, all the reading I am doing makes me think I could have saved my gall bladder with diet 20 years ago... or actually that grains killed it in the first place and set me up for so many other allergies and intolerances too!
