Snestie
Hello! I understand that animal protein is what the meal template is all about but I’m just wondering if split peas might be the only plant based exception? They are really high in protein and in fact a “complete protein” containing all 9 essential amino acids. So off round they are a fantastic source, but I was hoping for one meal every so often on round it could be considered compliant?
KTH1010
I don't know for sure but I think that sounds ok? I'm doing split pea and bacon soup tonight with a side of sweet potatoes (the Japanese kind - my absolute favorite) with chipotle mayo for the potatoes... I know bacon is technically a fat source so I think the soup totally counts as a complete whole30 meal!
laura_juggles
I'm going to kind of lean the opposite way of KTH1010...a brief glance at a nutrition panel for split peas shows over double the amount of carbs compared to protein. The same way nuts have protein but are mainly a fat, I'd say split peas have protein but are mainly a starchy carb.
