W30-Maryland
I saw a post a while back that it might be ok, but I'd love to know if it's REALLY ok And what other solutions to constipation you'd suggest? I'm eating a TON of vegetables and typically need Miralax but haven't had it on the program because I want to be SUPER strict. I saw a suggestion for 500 mg of Magnesium Citrate - is that a pill or the liquid? Thanks for any advice you have!
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted December 13, 2020 Moderators Share Posted December 13, 2020 If you need it, take it. If you can find it, there's Clearlax or purelax I think that's basically a Miralax powder you dissolve in liquid that doesn't have any added sugars or sweeteners or anything, but if there's some other form that you typically take that you know works for you, it's ok to take that. Magnesium comes in a few forms. I'm not sure what the post you saw was referring to, but there are magnesium pills, they may be in with vitamins or they might be with digestive meds. There’s also a powder that you dissolve in water or 9ther liquid called Natural Calm -- it comes in an original, unflavored, unsweetened version that is Whole30 compatible, or flavored versions that contain stevia that are not, so be sure to check labels. Sometimes oral magnesium causes digestive upset for people. If that's the case for you or you'd just prefer a different option, Epsom salt baths or foot soaks or magnesium oil/lotion is an option, you would be absorbing magnesium through your skin. Magnesium oil isn't truly an oil, it will leave your skin feeling a bit like you've been in salt water. I've seen some magnesium lotions but never tried them, I don't know if they would feel the same. In general, eat a variety of vegetables, trying to get both soluble and insoluble fiber -- you can google this and see how to get both, but basically eat different types of vegetables, not just leafy green stuff or just starchy ones. Be sure you drink plenty of water -- one recommendation is to aim for 1/2 oz of water for each pound of body weight, so if you weigh about 120 lbs, aim for at least 60 oz. And be sure you are adding fat to each meal.
