Confessions of a non cross fit foodie

Confession: I haven't really been hungry... AND ITS AWESOME!!! I know I know. 3 meals a day, Template Template. But here's the deal. I am never not hungry. I mean, it just hasn't happened in my 30 years of cramming food into my hole. SO, I find it to be quite refreshing. In fact, it has been very eye opening as to why I eat and what my relationship with food really is sometimes. I certainly am not starving to death. AND i'm not snacking :D

B- banana strawberry coconut milk coffee replacement

L- mixed green with cucumber, a few raspberries and cinnamon pear balsamic vinegar

D- carrot & sweet potato latke & sparkling water

I know... very little protein. I get it.

Portion sizes have always been an issue, so I am testing the waters here with my lack of hunger. I am quite curious to see how the next couple of days will play out, because I am not going to force myself to eat perfect meals... I'm just going to eat when I'm hungry. Not bored. Not stressed. Not because it's there. Not because someone else is. Not because of sugar or carb cravings. But because I'm hungry. And I can honestly say that I haven't wanted to cheat!

I did some prepping tonight after work. Breakfast seems to be the most difficult to get myself into gear.. So I did up some carrot sweet potato latkes and 12 egg, red & orange pepper, cat poop cookie (YAY THEY'RE GONE!!!!!) muffins. Made some breakfast sausage patties and cooked them up. I also had some chicken that needed to be cooked so I tossed it around with the rest of the fennel and shallots left from my beet salad, some olive oil lemon juice & zest and fresh rosemary and baked that off. Hoping to get a square breakfast in tomorrow. I would imagine that I'll be a tad hungry, but we'll see!!

So- I decided eating 3 meals a day was more important than eating when I was hungry... so that is how my day has gone.

B- Not hungry. Egg muffin, carrot & sweet potato latke cooked in coconut oil, sausage pattie. NO COFFEE REPLACEMENT BEVERAGE!!!

L- Not Hungry. Grilled chicken tit. Beet and orange salad. Everything drizzled blood orange EVOO. Sparkling water w/ splash 100% carrot juice.

Trying.. To stick... With the TEMPLATE!

P.s. Today was the first day I could get off of the toilet without feeling the need to use a walker. I may resume cultivating the desire to work out... Tomorrow.

You are hilarious guurl!! You will have yer own blog soon. I noticed you because I recognized your town as I live in the Southern Tier of New York so we are practically neighbors!! I too am not a cross fitter...no idea what it is...I have and love my own fittness routine and it works for me! If you keep posting you'll have yourself a whole fan club out there. I know I will be looking for you tomorrow. I'm at day 20 and hubby who has been compliant but less and less happy about it ...told me he was bored of eating so well...after I got up and put together a lovely crockpot meal. He wants a HOT DOG???? Hmmmm....so worried that all this has been for naught as far as he is concerned. I'm hoping that maybe he'll go back to at leastly mostly compliant Whole9. As for me...I think this is great...I shop at Wegmans and now look at other's carts in such dismay....seeing all the processed food that is going out of the store and into people's mouth. Anyway...I was trying to post a new thread but couldn't find that button here so I just had a little rant...hope that is okay! Keep up the good work...Day 20 here...hoping the next 10 days might improve hubby's mood at least a little?

D- Grass fed ground beef w/ organic diced tomatoes and sauce, hot pepper, shallot over sauteed baby bellas. A few nuts & berries w/ coconut milk.

Suzytee--> I am endlessly laughing about THE HOT DOG! Ha! Mine likes spaghetti O's with scoops. GROSS. Good Luck! (Do you have a log?)

And I am LMAO at your snot bubbles and Chicken tit!!! Your use of word imagery is excellent!! I started a log ( mine weren't clever enough to get a following :) -but didn't do it everyday. Instead when a question or problem arrived I start a new post with a specific subject matter so I might get some responses. That is when I can find the "start new topic " button. Good luck with your challenges. You have a great deal more to work around with your work schedule than I do and my "hotdot" hubby cooks at least so I'll keep him!

Suzytee I think you may have made more progress with hubby than you think. If he is staying mostly compliant that is a start. Mine isn't doing the whole30, but eats what I make. When we shifted to paleo after Thanksgiving we went to Wegmans. I had made a very specific list, however he needed to check each and every single one of his go to staples. (Insert spaghetti O's, pudding packs, pasta roni ect) I hope you believe me when I say that he had an epic meltdown. Minga was he pissed off! EVERY single one of his favorites had corn starch, wheat or something else in it. He of course vented his anger at me, and I in turn reminded him that HE in fact was the one that wanted to go paleo, via his brothers urging. After screaming "what the hell are we going to eat?!?" in the middle of the store, we mozied on back over to produce. I held his hand and reminded him that I have worked in a restaurant since I was 12, and we would not starve... I knew how to make all of this foreign material in our cart. The realisation came to me that he really didn't know what half of the stuff we picked out was, or how to cook it. He was very vulnerable, and his pride was hanging below his testicles. He had gone from a self sufficient 40 year old man, to one that had no clue as to how to make a turnip... or what a fresh artichoke looks like. He is stubborn. As far as I'm concerned the learning process of what is in the foods he loves has been insurmountable. It sounds to me like your husband may be feeling the same way, and is missing his old staples. Hang in there! If you lead, he will eventually follow. Somehow you just need to work it s he thinks it is his idea... LOL! Good Luck!!!

Yeah....it's the Venus Mars thing for sure. I do all the reading and searching though I must say...we started Whole9 after Thanksgiving as well and he was gung ho...looking up recipes etc...but we were about 80/20 so we still indulged in a sweet treat in the afternoon and wine at night. Alcohol is his BIG DRAGON but he was totally on board with it. I gently suggested that he read the book yesterday so he could get back some of his enthusiasm. He won't eat alot and that is the main issue so he isn't really gaining the benefit of burning the fat for energy. He did stop drinking and had one slip at the end of week one...I hit the roof!! He poured it out. No "detaching with love" for this chic...not during a Whole30! Ha! Anyway...guys just don't like to do what others suggest it seems so we have to be sooo clever about things. Some would be excited about only having 10 more days....I'm thinking it sounds like enough time to perhaps set his new habits. I feel like I'm going to be released from prison...you know how they say long time inmates don't know how to live without being told what to do. I don't mean to say that I will lose control, but it will be different somehow. Anyway...hope all is going well with you and yours!!

B- Pear cinnamon coconut milk coffee replacement

L- Beef chili type stuff from last night sparkling water with lemon

D- A few egg muffins. Chicken sausage. Tomato & cucumbers w/ olive oil & cracked pepper. sparkling water with lemon Chamomile hot tea.

So- I made that beet salad quite a few days ago right? I kid you not when I say that I continue to urinate in a lovely shade of fluorescent pink. I mean, I like beets and all, but pink pee for days after?! I don't recall this previously. Mental note: drink more water?

I haven't really felt the need to snack. I'm falling asleep better, most likely due to being caffeine free for about 2 weeks. STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I AM ALIVE WITH OUT COFFEE. And functioning. I'm not crying during commercials or the news :D I am feeling a bit svelte. I feel like my weight loss/ deflation (if any) is at a stand still. Must. Cultivate. The. Desire. To. Work. Out. My boss gave me a bottle of wine to sample, as we are revamping our wine list. She almost fell out of her chair when I told her I'd let her know February 1st. It was priceless.

B- slept through it, and It was INCREDIBLE.

L- 2 Sausage patties, carrot sweet potato latke.

D- (as soon as it's done) Organic French rack of pork w/ fresh herbs and Tuscan infused olive oil. Steamed broccoli. Baked sweet potato w/ cinnamon.

Went shopping today. This time I tried to get items that correspond to some type of recipe. This was good, until I gave the chic the wrong card and it was declined. BALLS! I hate that. So did the cranky pants supermodel behind me. Sorry honey. So then I couldn't remember what card actually had my money on it, so I ended up using my credit card. I AM SO FREAKING BLONDE SOMETIMES. Although I do have 4 checking accounts, and switched my direct deposit around this pay period, so it isn't too entirely ridiculous.

Made a giant crock of vegetable soup. I asked my husband to help me stir the onions while i chopped more veggies, and you'd think I asked him to hold the speculum for an OBGYN appointment! PFFFHHT. Finally I relieved him of this oh so difficult task... Made beef & butternut squash stew. Prepped up come carrots, cauliflower & broccoli. Got the stew & soup into tupperwear & freezer bags and put it in the back porch to freeze. (It's like 6 degrees out... saving the freezer some work.) Dinner is in the oven.

I woke up this morning and have the brewings of another sty... on my other eye O.o I am most annoyed, as I really wanted to nail down WHAT IS MAKING ME LOOK LIKE A SLOTH. I thought for sure it was wheat &/or a developing allergic reaction to alcohol as my mother has a full blown allergy to booze. I've been wheat free for since Thanksgiving, and no wine since the first... and my face looks like I've been making out with a brillo pad for hours!!! (In addition to the sty/ challazion issues.) Fantastical. Despite this, I picked up my new glasses today and I love them :D They are Vera Bradley, kind of flowery and sooo old lady. My girlfriends are going to revolt. Muaahahahahahaaaaa. I also think the beets may have run out of me.

Food looks FAN---TASTIC! Um, when are you inviting w30 company for dinner...lol?! Your hubby can eat spagetti Os and mine will sample the food, say it's great and like Suzytee's will MICROWAVE hotdogs cause he's "still hungry".

I know it's hard to eat to template when you're not hungry (I had that issue tonight and on Saturday...alll day). Major kudos for just doing it! Also, I promise the need for a walker after squats will diminish with time and practice :)

I have a treatment for my eye which might help with your sty, not sure if you can do it while you have one though, might be better to wait until it's gone or not painful.

I don't naturally produce enough oil from the ducts that are in your bottom eyelid edge (causes iritis, common in those with arthritis - google for horrifying pictures). After years of specialists, I was given a treatment that is so simple it's funny. At night before bed, gently rub along the bottom of your eyelid with a sterile cotton bud (you can do it with anything really, but these are easy to get sterile), that's it! It doesn't work at first, but after a few days the eyelids naturally produce more oil, lubricating the eye (iritis happens when the lens sticks to the rest of the eye, from dryness). In about 5 years I've only had steroid eye drops once (and I got itchy tree dust in my eyes that time).

Oh how I wish this worked!!!! For about the last year I have been using ocu soft pads/ clean washcloth & mild soap to wash/scrub my eyelash line. I also have a medicated eye ointment that I have been using since my last visit. I also put a hot compress on my eyes just about every night and every morning. Every eye doctor i have seen wants me to take a low dose antibiotic for the rosacea--> eye lid issues... which I do not want to do. I actually got a referral today when I picked up my glasses for an eye surgeon to lance the one I've been battling for 2 months. The medicated ointment seems to be working somewhat, so I will continue it in combination with lashline scrubs, warm compresses and I want to grab some drops. MOST ANNOYING, especially seeing that I don't even wear make up!

Oh ouch, I hope it fixes it. Maybe the eye surgeon will have another idea.

I will never know. Their office doesn't take our insurance. In fact I have been on the phone for 2 hours trying to find an office that accepts our insurance, that has an open appointment slot SOME TIME THIS CENTURY to no avail. I mean really, Feb 19th as the soonest appointment in over 15 different offices?!!?!?! I am flaming pissed off and subsequently crying. Does someone have an exacto knife? Let's just lop it off. Meanwhile I will be in bed with a hot compress and a mild headache sniffling like a boob.

B- 2 sausage patties. 1 carrot sweet potato latke. I KNOW! They're not gone yet!!!

L- Tissues & bed. Chapstick & water. Medicated eye ointment.

Ok. I'm done feeling sorry for myself. So- I decided to get some more prep work done.

I made a brussels sprouts, green onion, almond & citrus salad, with enough extra citrus to help finish off those beets. And a green onion vinaigrette.

Seared up the rest of the sprouts in ghee.

Made some home made mayo.

Baked off an acorn squash.

Attempted to make a Yucca. FAIL.

So- @ the check out at Wegmans, the young man squeaks "Um... Maam?"

I look behind me, thinking:: who the hell is Ma'am?!? I didn't bring my mother!

I look back at him over my glasses, mildly irritated that I'm now in the "ma'am" category. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUNG LADY!?! Or miss??!

Then I see his beat red face holding the Yucca. He squeaks again "Uhhhhh. Ma'am. UM. What is this?!"

BWAAHAHAHAHAAa. I looked at it, and calmly said, it's a yucca. Meanwhile I'm rolling on the inside, as it most definitely looks like a gigantic wax covered turd. Awkward for him! LOL

I set out to make yucca fries, and after boiling it and tasting it, I thought I'd quick mash it in the food processor instead. DO NOT EVER DO DO THIS. Well you could if you'd like a wad of superhuman semen/glue paste. My husband walks in and says, oooh mashed potatoes and sticks his finger in it, and when he pulled it out the yucca stuck and was a long string, kind of like taffy. Interestingly he ate it. I ended up coating it with almond flour and frying it. Pain in the balls.

D- NY Strip, steamed green beans, acorn squash w/ ghee, 1/2 grilled bella. Sparkling water.

B- 2 egg muffins. carrot sweet potato latke.

L- Brussels sprouts salad w/ orange, grapefruit, almonds & green onion vinaigrette. A few cherries.

snack- hard boiled egg

D- Chicken tit baked w/ tomato, onion, jalapeno, sweet peppers, basil oil. Baked butternut squash. Chai tea.

Scored a sweet stainless steel tea kettle at the thrift store for .99c... and a few blouses blouses for work! I also had a BB&B gift card, so I picked up a Vidalia chopper. I am being pro-active against carpel tunnel ;) Although my sweet Zwilling J.A Henckels 6" chef knife is quite jealous. We've been spending a lot of time time together.

B- Hard boiled egg. 1 sweet pepper. Cup of coffee w/ coconut milk & fresh coconut water. (I battled a coconut, and won.)

L- Baked chicken drums w/ fennel & onion. Butternut squash. Brussels sprouts salad w/ citrus pieces, almonds & green onion dressing + squirt blood orange EVOO.

D- Ground beef chili business from a few days back. Acorn squash. Pear, cherry, coconut & raw cashew meaningless concoction. I think I will add nuts to my main entrees. Seems like after dinner I am wanting crunchy something and the pear nut business is not really doing much but reinforcing dessert like tendencies. There. I said it. Yay day #25 admitting SWYPO... and it's gotta be the best 'rug burn' ever.

Washed & wore one of the blouses I picked up yesterday & my coworker (same one as the backfat scenario) said: "Are you kidding me??! If I poke your stomach I swear I'm going to feel ripped abs!"

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. Dang. This girl was swaggerlicious in the office to-day!

((For the record--> there are not/has never been abs there... Well there is...Hmmm... Let's just say the blubber glacier may in fact be melting; OK?))

I wonder if u have blepharitis (I have had for years). Paleo has helped tremendously along with 200 mg doxycycline daily. Don't know your age but I also feel mine related to hormones. Bio-identical hormone replacement has also been godsend! I know how much eye issues can color everything! U can't escape it! Love your log! Thinking of starting another whole 30 in a few. Trying to get motivated!

I think blepharitis really is the issue. I REALLY DON'T WANT to take doxycycline for the rest of my life... And I very well may be the most hormonal non-pregnant 30 year old in the universe. Looking back at my posts, I go from a snotting sobbing basket case to a swanky sexy feeling XL lady in under 8 hours. This whole30 has definitaley helped with that, really it has. As far a this bio-identical business... I'll have to look into that! (If I can see it past this stye that is...)

Start the whole30. Do it. Would you like me to post a picture of my puss filled swollen stye for motivation? NO? Neither does anyone else. Start tomorrow :)

I slept like royal crap last night. I think its the coffee. We'll see about tonight. If it is the same, coffee is BANNED!

L-Organic french rack of pork w/ rosemary & tuscan EVOO. Acorn squash. Brussels sprouts salad like yesterday. Raspberry tea.

D- Most likely Beef & butternut squash stew.

I think ur too young for it to be hormonal! I do hate having to take antibiotics but when I try to cut it down I have a flare! They make me miserable and take over my whole life as I can look 10 years older, look like I have been hit by baseball bat and have everyone ask "is everything ok"?

S- Organic Pear.

D- Stew. Didn't really have enough meat. So when I got home I had some chicken w/ mayo and a few sprouts. Banana.

Got crazy and cleaned out my bathroom closet. YeHa! Party central on a Saturday night up over here! But seriously... That's been on my to do list for about 3 years now. Anyone want some bacon flavored toothpaste? How about bacon bandaids? My husband 'has no idea where they came from'... Okie Dokie King Baconator.

I had 4 separate people tell me I was wasting away to nothing (or some other comment) today. I am finding it... difficult... to respond to these types of comments/ compliments. While I definitely respond to positive reinforcement, I also don't really know what to say. My full time gig is in senior living, so I see these folks each and every day. For example: This same little lady has asked me how much weight i've lost EVERY DAY SINCE NOVEMBER. I am fully aware of the dementia level, and repetitive nature of working with this population... I just find it mildly uncomfortable. Just the same as the little lady that would always say 'I hope my butt doesn't get like hers, don't let me do that ok?' to her table mate not realizing the rest of the room can hear her and she is in fact not whispering. I guess I'm just feeling a little different in my skin.
