FAI & sugar addiction

Hi! I’m a SAHM of three, homeschool teacher, avid health nut and I need a reset. My sugar addiction and need for “dessert” options throughout the day is out of control. I’m starting my first whole30 to stop the inertia of these bad habits in their tracks. Also I have FAI hip impingement and it has made me acutely aware of how inflammation affects my body. In the hope of discovering more about how things like and dairy, sugar and grains may be affecting this I’m commuting to this process today.

Welcome @Kiirsten You're in the right place to get a reset! I'm a W30 veteran - currently doing a back to back W30 - on day 34 at the moment or W30 #5 day 4 :)

I had some remarkable results with previous W30s and inflammatory response. The most evident was the spontaneous healing of a 4 year old chronic right foot plantar fasciitis for which I had EVERY treatment (except surgery) known to mankind without success. During this most recent W30, I have almost no hip pain (SI joint dysfunction) although an FAI is a bit of a different challenge. I have a bony spur in my left heel which is more along the lines of the FAI. Unfortunately, this W30 hasn't touched that pain although I do recover faster from acute episodes of pain.  I'm going for shockwave therapy next week and am hoping that breaks up the calicum and I get some pain relief.

Enjoy your first 30 days. Your sugar dragon will rage at you this week! Be gentle with yourself - the first 15-20 days can be a wild ride!

Lorna and Kiirsten - your post hits home. I have SI joint issues as well as other chronic pain issues related to a horseback riding accident that happened more than 10 years ago. As an RN, I've personally seen the damage that pain medication can reek on all aspects of life and am determined my pain can and will be relieved without narcotics. This past year the pain has been worse than since back surgery 5 years ago. As I tried to analyze and determine the cause, I came to realize my diet and activity took a terrible down turn with the COVID Pandemic. I'm hoping to re-set my nutrition over the next 40 days (I'm doing Whole30 throughout Lent) and hoping also to find that some of the pain is relieved and that use of anti-inflammatory medications reduced.

Amen sister (retired RN here :) ) - 2020 was really, really rough. It's been good to be doing a W30 since January 1 and to be carrying on with it. I am still working through my return to exercise since this is something that is missing from my routine as well. I am struggling without access to my gym and trainer. I am confident after my first shockwave that my foot is healing and that gives me confidence that I can return to working out soon. fingers crossed

Good luck as your embark on your W40 - have you done one before?

Hi Lorna. No maam. This is my first round. Ended up starting March 1. When I initially started on Ash Wednesday, Texas was in the midst of a major snow storm - the likes of which we have (honestly) never seen. There was literally no food in the grocery stores (no kidding - the shelves were completely empty), no gas at the gas stations and no deliveries (I'm an oncology nurse who also does home infusions on the side and obtaining supplies the week after our snowmaggedon was nearly impossible!). Most restaurants were closed because they couldn't get food deliveries. We had to dig deep in the pantry and freezer, making it nearly impossible to find any Whole 30 compatible foods. I'm back on track and officially started yesterday. Today has been tough - tired, cranky, nauseated and just blah. Hoping you're going to tell me things will get better! lol

Hi, Just want to claim my seat in the March W30.  I started 3/2 so am on Day 8.  This is my 2nd go round--first was in 2018 when I followed it for almost 3 months and lost 19 pounds. Hello and happy trails to all who are on this March journey with me!
