SarrizleP
I tried searching and couldn't find much on this. I asked my butcher about complaint bacon and he suggested side pork. It's sliced like bacon, but it's unsmoked and uncured. I got some, have tried it once..... and it was disgusting. I just fried it up like bacon though. So, I'm wondering, does anyone have any recipes or cooking methods to make it taste better? Should I have put some salt on it first? Should I put it with something? I still have a lot left and I'd like for it to not go to waste.
Susan W
Yes you first need to cure it for a few days, then bake it and then you slice and fry it up. If you do a search on this site for pork belly, you will see lots of different versions.
praxisproject
Jamie Oliver has a great recipe for oven baked pork belly with fennel seeds. It doesn't taste like bacon though, no smoky taste without actualy smoking. Pork Belly leftovers can be fried until crispy though.

Susan W
First, I rubbed liquid smoke on mine and then I used smoked paprika, chipotle powder, salt and pepper to cure mine. It definitely tastes like bacon.
