Restless legs

Recommended Posts

Greetings All! I'm on day 9 of my 1st Whole 30 and all has been going fairly well. My first four days I felt GREAT! Then in day 6 I couldn't travel too far away from a bathroom, Day 7 I was exhausted, and beginning on the evening of day 7 I started getting restless legs when I lie down to bed. I read that restless legs occur in people who are withdrawing from opiates (which wheat acts like/is like). Is anyone out there having the same issue? It's affecting my sleep.

I have also had some issues yesterday and today with a little sinus congestion and headaches, I did start taking some vitamin C supplements yesterday and I suspect they may be made with gluten.

A little of my background, I'm 42, overweight, been diagnosed with high blood pressure since I was 28 (docs started noticing at 24) and I've also been dealing with acid reflux for about two years now.

Any advice on the restless legs?

This happened to me on day 10 - I was very tired, falling asleep on the couch while watching a movie with my husband, and my legs wouldn't stop twitching! The good news is when I woke up on day 11, I was like a whole new person - I don't remember the last time I had this much energy! (and the twitching stopped, too). Hang in there!

I take magnesium every night for twitchy & crampy legs, I also have to pay attention to my salt intake, if it gets too low my legs get crampy. The magnesium helps the most though, if I skip a day, I often get a cramp at night.

Franks Hot Sauce is my favourite for extra salt :)

Some people find daily bone broth good for legs too.

I'm military and live overseas at the moment, will be returning to the states next month for my next tour. I went to the store on base and wouldn't you know it, ALL the magnesium supplements have something related to gluten in them. So that is definitely a no go. I've been thinking about the Epsom salt in the bath water thing and may try that, but my twitchy legs seem to be getting slightly better.

My dad's restless legs was helped by Vitamin B6 supplementation. He's been a night kicker for years, and always picked at his toenails and pulled them off because of a weird tingling in his feet (like bugs under the skin). I started feeling that way as a side effect of some meds I was on and my doctor supplemented my B6 and they were gone! I told him, and my mom is SO happy at his results!

As for non-gluten vitamin C ordering...I hope they can. I've never had luck with anything like that (oh, you don't want this one specific med that we have? Okay, no meds for you! We can't get an alternate because it isn't in the system) but hopefully yours are better!
