melliemoo
I just ordered a Sodastream because I am finding I really like fizzy water. Are the MyWater flavorings Whole30 compliant? Has anyone tried them? The reviews say they are awful and have a chemical taste. Has anyone experimented with just putting their own fruit into the seltzer after it's made? I LOVE berry flavored water, so any tips on adding berries would be appreciated. Thanks! Mel =)
Kirsteen
Yes you can add a couple of berries to fizzy water or a couple of olives or orange slices and mint leaves (one of my favourites) or lemon or lime slices. It makes it seem so much more than just plain old water.
Aberrantatavia
How do you like the soda stream? I've gone back and forth with it since I drink a ton of seltzer water. Does it really work out to be cheaper?
Clare Dunn
I love my Sodastream! Putting the cost aside, just throwing out 100% less plastic makes me happy. It's worth it just for that IMO.

It's supposed to be cheaper but from what I've read, the cost about balances out due to the cost of the carbonization cartridges. However I am a big environmentalist so I like the idea of not having a ton of cans/bottles to recycle.
tellytelly
I'm going to see if I can get hubbie to swap out his beer from the kegerator instead. Viola - homemade sodastream!
Melany Anderson
I got the soda steam 2 days ago and LOVE it. I am drinking so much more water now.
Taylor Herman
I have the soda stream and I love it. My boyfriend and I go through four canisters of carbon in one month usually but for us it's still cheaper than buying bottles/cans. Just so everyone knows, when you replace your carbon canister go to bed bath & beyond if you can. They accept tons of coupons (expired coupons, other store coupons, anything really) and they constantly are sending out 20% off or $5 off coupons. I collect my coupons all month, bring in the four canisters, and I usually save a good deal of money that way. The things I'll do for seltzer... alm613
At first I was disappointed because all the flavor packs for my Soda Stream had cane sugar. Even the "natural" flavors have cane sugar! However, if you look hard enough (I had to dig a little at Bed Bath and Beyond), you will find that they have two basic all-natural flavors that come in three packs of little glass bottles. I've only seen raspberry and orange, and you pour just a 1/2 tsp into your liter of seltzer. It tastes a little syrupy to me, but maybe I just need to mix it better. Either way, those little glass bottles are the only flavor I've seen that is ok for Whole30! Made by the SodaStream brand.
Rara1982
My sodastream is my best friend! We only use it for plain soda water and its so much better than throwing away all those empty plastic every week. We bought extra bottles too so we just keep plain water chilled in the fridge til it's time to zap it.
caitlin
I was never a big seltzer drinker before, but I am obsessed since we got our soda stream. I use it like crazy. Lately I've really been enjoying a little grapefruit squeezed in. Also, I really think sparkling water tastes better through a straw, but hate the waste. my friend got me these for christmas (http://www.etsy.com/listing/114083601/set-of-4-choose-your-own-colors-glass?ref=sr_gallery_9&ga_search_query=pyrex+straws&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all) and I'm in love! I'm seriously drinking more water just because of the silly straws.
melliemoo
Aha! Those are the ones I was asking about. Amazon has them in a 3-pack called "MyWater", made by Sodastream, and it comes in lime, orange, and berry. At first I was disappointed because all the flavor packs for my Soda Stream had cane sugar. Sharon Simpson Thumann
Actually there was another thread about soda stream and mywater flavors with an email someone posted from the company and if I am not totally mistaken, they were compliant. Orange, lemon and lime I think.. http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/3239-chocolate-tea/page__p__27650__hl__+soda%20+stream__fromsearch__1#entry27650 ^ That's the thread, I guess read and come to your own conclusions. melliemoo
I just got my Sodastream. Would it be okay to brew iced tea using tea bags, then carbonate it? I don't see why not!
Sharon Simpson Thumann
Possibilities are endless, I suppose. LOL I am not sure how I feel about carbonated tea, let me know how it turns out. I am still on the fence about buying one for myself. Right now, we aren't making any purchases because we might be moving.
melliemoo
I will, Sharon. I love berry flavored fizzy water, so I'm hoping the tea will taste like that. My favorite Celestial Seasonings Wild Berry Zinger does NOT have soy lecithin, so I ordered a bunch from Amazon and will experiment this weekend and report back! praxisproject
I love tea turned fizzy The Twinings Infusions Cranberry is great with lemon or berries.
CAK911
I'm going to see if I can get hubbie to swap out his beer from the kegerator instead. Viola - homemade sodastream! We totally did this. We don't have a regular kegerator, but we have kegs and taps set up for homebrewing, and they're all on various waters right now.
melliemoo
I did my first bottle using cold water I had in the fridge with lemons soaking in it, and it was delish. Amazon lied to me about ingredients in the Celestial Seasonings Wild Berry Zinger, so back it goes. I got some other teas that are compliant at the store yesterday, including my fave mix of pomegranate, blueberry, and acai with green tea. YUM. So I will try fizzing that and report back on taste. bonnynancy
So, just to be clear: you can fizz up tea-infused water? Not a problem? I just got a Sodastream last week because, while I found I did not miss sugary soft drinks, I did miss a little fizz. Plain carbonated is very nice, but a little herbal tea flavor would be lovely. melliemoo
I don't see why not, Nancy. It's just infusing the water with teabags in my case. I will let you know how it turns out!
Michaela Elmore Cogswell
Just make sure you do it in the right order. Sodastream is pretty adamant that you shouldn't carbonate anything that isn't water because you can't clean the nozzle they provide. Unless there's been an upgrade to the newer versions that don't know about. But if you brew your tea extra strong and then add fizzy water to it, you should be fine. Clare Dunn
I think it's more to do with the carbonation process. Plain water carbonates better - chilled water best of all. So water with added 'stuff' won't carbonate or hold it's carbonation as well as plain chilled water.
Michaela Elmore Cogswell
Restaurants clean their nozzles for adding fizz to the carbonated sodas they carry nightly. If you have a way to detach and sanitize your nozzle, go for it. Otherwise, expect bacteria and other nasties to start growing from the residues left in there.
