Whole30 Dinner Party

Hi there I am on day 17 of my first whole30 and so far its going ok! I am enjoying the food and other than a serious nut addiction which I am working on, I think I am eating better than ever.

I've spent the first two weekends as a recluse, figuring it would make it easier to do the plan rather than socialising and finding it hard. However, it was hard and I am missing people!! So I have decided to have a dinner party this saturday for some friends who eat chicken and fish and so far are keen to hear more about Paleo - which may become whole30!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could include on my menu? I love to experiment with friends so am up for anything. I have been looking through well fed and had a few ideas.

I'm thinking of starting with home made guacamole and veggies and olives. Then.... well, I'm not so sure!

For a small dinner party I've made this "Incredible Roasted Lamb Shoulder with Smashed Root Vegetates" recipe by Jamie Oliver. It is fantastic.

You would need to sub something for potatoes (cauliflower maybe?), and either not thicken the sauce or use arrowroot or tapioca starch, I'm not sure if the starches are allowed. If you can use the starch you wouldn't brown it like you would flour. Just whisk with water or broth and stir in.

Let us know what you end up serving!

Hi there, thank you both for your suggestions. I turned to well fed and the internet for some ideas too and made home made mayo, baba ganoush and guacamole - all compliant. We had these with chopped carrot, cucumber and peppers. I then made gluten free crab cakes which are one of my favourite dishes, with some sweet potato wedges and mixed veg stir fry.

I followed this up with a chocolate cake that wasn't whole 30 compliant, just by nature of it being a baked good, but it had banana as the sweetener and all the ingredients did comply. I served this with mixed berries.

At Christmas, we did steaks with grilled onions, these mashed sweet potatoes (http://www.paleoeffect.com/recipes/garlic-mashed-sweet-potatoes-paleo-sides/), some oven roasted yellow squash, and this salad with pomegranate: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Arugula-Salad-with-Pomegranate-and-Toasted-Pecans-233087

I also like oven roasted carrots tossed with clarified butter and dill as a classy looking side.

This recipe for balsamic mustard chicken is GREAT and is one of our go-tos for feeding other people: http://everydaypaleo.com/budget-friendly-balsamic-mustard-chicken-and-oven-roasted-bacon-veggies-by-erika/

There was a suggestion for a dinner party menu in ISWF that sounded really good, for the future. The compliant dessert suggestion was poached pears with coconut raspberry compote. Holy yum sounding!

I was just looking at these and they had almond extract. I found that confusing. This doesn't seem like a compliant ingredient, but it does seem to be part of the essence of almond pears. Anyone have any thoughts?
