Kirsteen
Interesting article here http://www.drbriffa.com/2013/01/18/the-heat-is-turning-up-on-sugar-and-the-nutrition-bodies-connected-with-the-sugar-industry/ on the increasing focus on the role of sugar in obesity and disease and the politics behind the nutrition associations connections with the sugar industry. carolinaBlue
If you're interested in this topic, google Dr. Robert Lustig. He's a pediatric endocrinologist who has spent decades studying the role played by sugars in nutrition and the obesity epidemic. There's an interesting YouTube video (about 90 minutes) where he specifically discusses the predictions made by John Yudkin in Pure, White and Deadly all the way back in 1972. Dr Lustig was on the Diane Rehm Show on NPR on Jan 7. I think you can get the podcast, but to me the best part of the show was the final caller who is a traditionally trained nutritionist. His response to her comments was very interesting!
little_muffin
Why oh why is this information not general knowledge? I have read/seen articles by Dr Lustig and am totally amazed by them and the utter lack of knowledge of the general public on this topic, and in the case of my family, totally blinkered towards any education on the topic. It makes me sad
