dining out: beef vs. chicken?

The Perfect Health Diet (2nd edition) rates the best beef as an A and the best chicken as a B in terms of promoting health and supplying nutrition. I routinely choose beef over chicken, figuring second rate beef is likely to be better than second rate chicken too.

thank you both! and wow great article callan. i've always thought chicken was a better/healthier option when eating out, but i never knew why...i've just always thought that beef/red meat was unhealthy without questioning why.

I've always thought this too, without any reason for thinking so... I think when eating traditional beef, you should choose leaner cuts though. I eat the fatty cuts of grass fed beef happily :)

Lot fat and anti-red meat dogma still pervades common advice.

If you're at a place where you see the raw beef first (some steak places you can choose the raw one you want), avoid the cuts with lots of bright white fat (yellow fat is better - go lean if none is yellow).
