Marcia
Yes! That's right... I'm going for 90 days... 3 months! I did a Whole30 that began 10/20 and ended a few days before Thanksgiving, but I was still good and just added a bit of organic maple syrup to the sweet potato casserole and cranberry sauce I made. Man!!! Cranberries are tart! During the Whole30 I did very well... didn't cheat once... the only thing I had trouble with was getting in 3 meals a day. I'm retired and after getting up at 5:30 am for nearly 25 years I enjoy sleeping in... I also have to take hypothyroid meds on an empty stomach... besides I don't like to eat first thing, although I do love a hearty breakfast. In those 30 days I did loose 10 pounds and gave up my beloved Diet Pepsi... still haven't had one! Now I only drink water and black coffee. I'm still waiting to feel all that energy that so many rave about, but I never have been a high energy person so perhaps it just won't happen for me. I'm also 62 and still need to lose another 20 pounds at least. Oh... and one more thing I do have high blood sugar issues. Not a Type II yet, but if I don't stop eating junk I will be!!! I also need to GET MOVING instead of sitting on my butt all day on the computer!!! Sooo... With Spring coming I want to be ready to enjoy the outdoors and my large perennial garden... feeling good, feeling energetic, and healthy! My strategy is to get up when I'm ready, have a big breakfast when I'm ready, and then have a light lunch (large veggie salad with protein), and then dinner around 7:00. My plan is to walk everyday and build up to 3 miles. As long as it doesn't go below 20 and not slippery I'll walk outside, but I do have a treadmill so no excuses! Also need to drink more water. I've found so many wonderful recipes in It Starts with Food, Well Fed, and online eating complaint is not a problem... However, since my first Whole30 ended I've found myself stopping for Fast Food and buying those addicting potato chips more and more so I've decided to recommit... For accountability, come Feb. 1st I'll be posting my meals. Here I go!!!

Marcia
Thanks ORBren... I hope you do! Thanks Lisa... I read through that journal and thought about joining, but it looked like it was well under way so here I am. Thanks kb0426! Well, tomorrow is the day and I am ready! I've actually been eating very "Whole30" for the last few days. For me, being prepared... having my meals at the ready is key. This morning I made my egg casserole... that will last me for 6 mornings! Yum! Also have made my favorite salad dressing and "Well Fed" Mayo. I'm marinading some ribs overnight for the crock pot tomorrow... have never had them before so I'm really looking forward to those... . The big challenge will be getting on the treadmill first thing, but that's what I'm planning. Would love to walk outside, but tomorrow's high is only suppose to be 10 degrees!!! Brrrrrrr! I did snow blow my driveway and my elderly neighbors today and it was only 12, but the streets are slippery so playing it safe and stay inside. There'll be lots of nicer days coming up! Well that's it for today... will post my eats tomorrow evening.
Marcia
Yay!!! I did it, I did it... and I am so proud of me. I got up, took my thyroid med, started my coffee, then got on the treadmill!!! I usually feed my 5 kitties first thing... I'm pretty sure they where wondering what's up "Mom"??? I did a mile and definitely will be building up. Anyway... Right after the TM instead of buttsitting on he computer I had my breakfast... with water... then had my coffee. I reread a few chapters in ISWF and that was the suggestion. So off to a good start. Also weighed myself this am and am at 175.3. When I started my first Whole30 I was at 195.3 so I'm pleased! More later...
Marcia
Had a good day... Today's Eats (with art) B: Egg casserole w/ LO roasted brussells sprouts, onion, gf bacon, and sauteed mushrooms. 1 kiwi L: Large organic salad with baby kale, baby spinach, baby spring greens, shredded red cabbage, onions, celery, diced peppers, fabulous seared chicken and (it's delicious, just omit the sugar!).D: Barbequed baby back ribs and cream of broccoli soup. The ribs were pretty ggod, but I do have to admit that I missed that bit of sweetness. Think I'll try ISWF's recipe next time. Love, love, love the broccoli soup... and so easy! ORBren
Nice pics. You are off to a strong start. Congrats on starting the day with the treadmill. I know that is harder than it sounds.
Marcia
Thanks for posting, Bren... and the encouragement! Made it again this morning. Don't know why it seems like such a feat, but I usually get up, feed the kitties, grab that cup of coffee and head right for the computer. I really want to keep it up... to be ready when the weather does get better to head out that front door for nice long walks! B: same egg dish, 1/2 red grapefruit L: Same as yesterday D: "Best Whole Chicken in a Crock Pot" and Cream of Broccoli Soup ( mine was pretty good, but a bit dry... think I'll cut the cooking time down next time. Making the chicken stock from the link in the recipe tonight.) Til tomorrow...
Marcia
Day 3: Slept in a bit today, but got on the treadmill first thing. Breakfast: Same frittata, 1/2 grapefruit, and 1/2 avocado with a sprinkle of lime juice. First time I've ever had avocado and it was wonderful! Bought 3 more today! Lunch: Leftover baby back ribs and man o man were they yummy! Better than the first night. I let the others go in the crock pot for a bit longer... so now they're nice and tender! Really didn't miss the lack of sweetness this time! Also a bowl of C of B soup... I am obsessed with it... probably not a good thing b/c it's very filling and I don't have room for any other veggies. Dinner: Since I had a heavier lunch I'll probably just have a seared chicken and veggie salad. Didn't care for the chicken stock I made from the crock pot chicken... dumped it out instead of putting it in the fridge and letting it become a science experiment. For now I'll stick with the organic ready made stock from the store. Hope to make a delish Waldorf Chicken Salad tomorrow with the CP chicken even though it's a bit dry. That's it for today... off to make some homemade mayo!
Marcia
1 mile on the treadmill this morning, One thing about walking outside is you have to continue to get home no matter what... I did make it, however, but I was struggling. The streets are snow packed now so it'll be a while before I can walk outside... can't wait, but I will persevere! Had a delicious Chicken Waldorf Salad for breakfast with leftover C of B soup. Yummm! Will post the rest of my day later.
Marcia
Walked again... felt better today, more energized! Breakfast: frittata 1/2 avocado with a squirt of Lime 1/2 grapefruit Lunch: leftover ribs leftover Waldorf Salad Cream of Roasted Cauliflower Soup (yummy!) Dinner: seared pork chop in ghee 2 oz. organic unsweetened applesauce, roasted brussels sprouts /ghee & avocado oil
Marcia
Somewhere here (wish I could remember where) I read, no sugar is easier than a little sugar. That really made an impression on me and it's so true, and you can use it for any trigger/temptation... no snacks are easier than a little snack, no chips are easier than a few chips, etc., etc. I'm definitely making this my mantra! Treadmill... felt good! Breakfast: 2 eggs, scrambled in ghee 2 homemade pork sausage patties 1/2 avocado with a spritz of lime 1 kiwi Lunch: Zughetti with compliant sauce and homemade Italian Sausage (one of my fav meals!) tossed veggie salad with Italian vinaigrette Dinner: will be same as yesterday
ORBren
I agree that cold turkey for sugar is best. But there is so much sneaky sugar out there, it is a daunting task. Aoundsnlikenyounarenstaying strong and eating very well . Keep it up! And congrats on the dedication to walking. I know that will pay off with stamina. 1Maryann
Marcia, I love your enthusiasm! We are similar in age, I'm 57, but I still work. I own my own business so I work a lot. Getting some exercise in is a challenge. I'm trying to establish the habit of an early breakfast (hard for me), feeding the dogs and parrots, and getting to the gym for 30-45 minutes every morning. The computer is my downfall. A quick check of messages, and hours can go by. The key is getting to bed early, I've discovered, but that is difficult, too. I'm also with Lisa in the 100 Day of Awesome group, and you are welcome to join us over there any time you like. Feel free to pop in and share your experiences. A few people have joined us this month. Who knows? This could become a permanent thread, where there's always a set of people in the midst of a Whole100 as some of us finish and others start. Wouldn't that be fun?
Marcia
Yes, there sure is sneaky sugar out there... you really have to read the labels. I'm always amazed when I watch TV and see all the commercials for supposed healthy foods. One that really gets me besides all the cereal adds is Nutella... first ingredient is SUGAR!!! Thanks Maryann... and that's sweet of you to say were close in age. Not too far apart I guess. I'd still be working...but the dentist I worked for, for 25 years sold his practice. I stayed on for 6 mo. for the transition, but then that was it, however, I was ready and love being able to do what I want, sleeping in, etc.! What is your business? One thing that really helps me with breakfast is having it already so I can just pop it in the microwave. One of my faves is to scramble a doz. eggs with cooked chopped bacon, onions, sauteed mushrooms, leftover veggies (or whatever you want), and divide into individual containers. It's all precooked so I just have to heat it up. Fast, easy, and tastes great! I have a hard time working out too... and I'm with you about the computer... but I love it! I start twitching if my computer isn't working! But I'm done with gyms, weightlifting, etc. Believe me I've had every piece of equipment possible, from the infamous "Thigh Master" to a very expensive weight stack machine. Now I'm just happy to get on the treadmill. When I feel a bit stronger I'd like to add squats for the lower half and wall push-ups for the upper and get up to 3 miles walking. That should keep me in pretty good shape for a senior citizen. LOL! Thank you both for stopping by... I was getting lonely and needed the encouragement. I'll have to swing by Whole100. If I'd realized I could join I sure would have. I just thought it was for those that had originally joined. Phew... this is a long post... anyway did the treadmill Breakfast: Same Lunch: leftover Waldorf salad Dinner: Chocolate Chili and a tossed salad Have to admit I was a little disappointed in the chili. Next time I'm going to fix my Copycat Wendy's Chili, my absolute fav chili... minus the beans of course.
Marcia
Great day! Didn't do much, but snow blow the driveway... then just lazed around. Treadmill - 1 mile, Boosted speed up to 3.7 for a while and added more incline. Felt good, but oh how I want to walk outside! Breakfast - same Lunch- whipped up a chicken curry salad and 1/2 avocado. Salad contained 1 chopped seared chicken breast, celery, walnut chips, red grapes. Dressing made with OOmayo, chicken stock, and curry powder. Dinner: leftover chocolate chili and roasted brussels sprouts. Chile was better tonight. Don't think I got enough veggies in today.
Marcia
Good day... treadmill this morning, but am taking tomorrow off. Marcia
No treadmill today... took the day off. Back to it tomorrow. B: Delicious Breakfast Scramble with GF/SF/NF bacon, onions, and mushrooms. 1/2 grapefruit L: L/O Sweet potatoes L/O Chocolate Chili D: Zughetti with Meat Sauce (2 zucchini) Wondering if I'm eating enough veggies? If anyone has an opinion I'd appreciate your input...
Marcia
Just had to chime in early today... had a great walk on the treadmill! Up 3.6 mph and 3% incline for the last half of a mile... actually a little more than a mile. I felt really energized this morning. OK... where's Marcia and what have you done with her??? LOL! Still hate getting out of bed in the morning no matter how many hours of sleep I get. Always have, and guess always will. Must just be one of those people... Anyway had a delicious breakfast... I think this is my fav! Egg scramble with GF/SF/NF bacon, sauteed mushrooms, onions 1/2 grapefruit 1/2 avocado I think this is a pretty good Whole30 compliant breakfast. Has all of the components, I believe. Planning on tuna salad and 1/2 avocado for lunch. Seared pork chop, roasted brussels sprouts, and perhaps a side salad for dinner. Marcia
Felt energized all day... got a lot done. Trying to consolidate rooms so I can get the last bedroom painted. Can't wait to get all the remodeling done! L: tuna salad 1/2 avocado D: pork chop seared in ghee roasted brussels sprouts tossed salad

Marcia
Kind of a weird day today... Had my first Bulletproof coffee that I made with 1 t. ghee and 1 t. coconut oil. Mmmmmmmmmm it was really good! Filled me up so I had some tuna salad for brunch, tuna salad for lunch, then after my grandson's BB game came home to a deliciously smelling kitchen! Pork roast in the crock pot was ready to go! Had that, L/O brussels sprouts, and L/O sweet potatoes. Finally got more test strips, so I checked my BS after dinner. 1 hr. post prandial was 134. 2 hr. PP was 110. Really do love sweet potatoes, but I must limit them... Perhaps for breakfast if I make SP Hash, but for the most part eliminate them. Have the higher carb foods in the morning... the least amount for dinner! Hopefully as I lose more weight my BS will get lower. Treadmilled this morning! Susan W
Marcia, when you say 1 t of ghee and co, do you mean 1 Tbs? To me, a t means teaspoon. I am such a glutton if you mean a teaspoon.
Marcia
LOL!!! Yep... t. is for teaspoon for me too. I just didn't say that it was very rounded. LOL! It sure was delish... and soothing. Do you have it every morning?
