TrayS
So yesterday on Day 28 I ate lunch out with coworkers, and got a salad which I went to great lengths to modify (switched out the meat for something that wasn't marinated in soy, used fresh salsa instead of dressing, asked them to leave off the cheese). So it arrived and it had some corn in it. I made a split second decision to not dig through it in front of all my work people to get out the little pieces of corn and ate it anyway. How bad is this? Do I need to call my Whole30 a Whole27 now? FWIW I continued onward since yesterday and I have felt no ill effects from the corn....
Robin Strathdee
At this point in the game, it's not likely to cause trouble unless you're sensitive (I am).
Suzy
Good for you! Sounds like you made a good decision in a timely manner. It's always such a dice roll when a person goes out to eat. When you start reintroducing grains, notice how corn makes you feel. It might not be all that bad for your body. It's one of those things that doesn't affect me much at all. It must be different for everyone.
TrayS
Thanks Robin and Suzy... I have noticed prior to this (when I was in between W30s) that tortilla chips make me feel uncomfortable pretty much immediately (itchy, hot face and fast heartbeat as well as that too-full feeling), but I did not experience the same thing from the whole pieces of corn yesterday. Maybe a bit of itchy face but I am suspecting I may have an issue with tomatoes. I think I may need to try AIP for awhile but I am scared to give up eggs. praxisproject
Don't forget that tortilla chips can be cooked in nasty oil. It may not be the corn you're reacting to. We don't have a lot of mexican places here in Australia, but I often have a reaction to fish tacos and I'm pretty sure it's the oil they cook the fish in (probably nasty vegetable oil of some kind). melbournegirl
I reintro'd corn via corn chips.... Bad idea, very sick but it was probably the oil?.. I will try the kernels when I finish my whole 100 but happy to give up corn products for ever
TrayS
Hmm that's a good point, maybe I should try reintroducing corn in the form of non-fried corn tortillas with no other ingredients. Or not..... I would be happy to give up corn products too (but would like to eat actual corn from time to time), though it would be easier to order mexican food out once in awhile if I know whether the corn is the issue. Something to think about!
