KC Sunshine
Hey all, I'm planning to make the infamous Chocolate Chili tomorrow! If you've never heard of it, you can check out the recipe here: http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2009/02/22/my-favorite-chili-recipe/ I've got most of the ingredients, but the one problem I've had is locating a can of beef broth. I'm in Japan, and all the brands at my local supermarket include soy sauce. Would substituting water be okay? Also, is it difficult to make a comparable broth from scratch? Also, if anyone else has suggestions for the recipe, I'm all ears. -Casey
missmary
I'm sure water would be fine, or you could sub any type of broth (chicken, etc.) that's compliant.
Susan W
Casey I use my homemade chicken stock all the time. Have you ever made it? Easy peasey. Especially if you have a slow cooker. As Miss Mary said, water works too. On the recipe. I found it a little bland so the second time I made it, I increased the spice.
EmilyB456
It is super easy to make broth/stock, and healthy, and delicious! You may not have time, if you want to make the chili that soon, but I throw beef or other bones along with celery, carrots, onions, garlic, maybe mustard seed, peppercorns, and some white vinegar in a hugebstock pot and boil the heck out of it. I boil mine for seriously like 24 hours, make a whole lot at once and freeze it for future use. Good luck! Enjoy your chili!

stillrollin
fwiw I used vegetable broth and it was delicious. Who knew finding compliant beef broth would be so hard? And im in the U.S. Also added some habanaro to spice it up. Matter of fact, for the leftovers I added another whole habanaro and it was even more to my liking. Tinkering with chilli is FUN! abur0418
I wish I would have seen this post sooner. All canned varieties have sugar. The one carton that didn't was just too much money. I will def have to make my own!
