Cindi
We just ordered half a pig from a friend who is raising his own pigs now. Okay...the butcher will be calling us any day now asking us for the details with what to do with it. We know we want sausage, bacon and ham and pork STEAKS. But will they ADD stuff to any of this especially the sausage or bacon which traditionally has stuff added? Can we ask that no sugar or funky stuff be added? And what other funky stuff could/would be added? Any ideas would be helpful. This is the first time we've done this.
EmilyB456
Typically if you ask them to make sausage, they'll make it the way they always do (which, with our butcher, means added sugar in bacon and sausage). It's worth a shot to ask them to leave it out, but if it was me, I'd ask for ground pork to mix my own spices into (that way you can have Italian and breakfast sausage whenever you want) and I'd ask for pork belly to slice for my own bacon. I'm so jealous right now. I want a freezer full of pig!
Cindi
I think I"m going to ask them to leave it out. Or just get bulk and make my own. I'm also going to ask for FRESH bacon. No sugar...no salt...no nothing. Just slice it please.
