Hydration

So, what do y'all drink before, during and after your workout?

I couldn't find much info. There's the W9 brew with water, baking soda, salt, and citrus. The Paleo Diet for Athletes has a similar recipe, with the addition of glucose and protein, but that isn't necessarily W30 compliant. Personally, those options don't seem very satisfying. And since we're doing the W30, I've come up with my own options:

Coconut water is supposed to be limited because of excess sugar and sodium. But you can get it raw. If you wanna go through the effort and hack open a coconut you can. There's a more convenient option with Harmless Harvest (http://www.harmlessh...T-COCONUT-WATER) but it is pricey.

Sport Tea. If you haven't tried it, do it. It's clean, refreshing and delicious. It doesn't fill you up either. I like to make sun-tea with it and infuse it with the power of the Sun. http://www.sportea.c...ingredients.php

And last, when in a pinch, Vega electrolyte hydrator (http://vegasport.com...rolyte-hydrator). It's also clean from what I've read and only contains all the nutrients you need.

Now go eat your PWO meal!

Water really works. Decades of Gatorade commercials have brainwashed the world into believing you will curl up and die if you fail to drink a fancy concoction whenever you sweat, but it ain't true. If you eat a good Whole30 diet, you can perform very nicely with plain water.

Yup water. I've worked out 25 days in a row (generally for an hour, higher intensity) during my W30 and water is all I've had before, during and after.

Tomorrow I'll do a longer ride and I'll follow it up with some lean protein (probably chicken) and yup, water.

So, is coconut in or out or just frowned upon? I drink water and kombucha, no coffee, no coconut milks and herbal teas only for medicinal reasons on occasion. I don't have a sugar dragon, I'm committing to 6 months on the IBS protocol and have not had a reaction to coconut oil or water. I enjoy it, it doesn't stop me from getting my nutrients but I really need to know if it is ruining my efforts or if drinking it this past week requires a restart. An answer from a mod would be much appreciated.

coconut is in. coconut, oil, flakes, butter and milk is in. coconut water is somewhat like fruit juice (lots of sugar there) so better limited, but no, I don't think you need a restart.

In this thread I think we were just reacting to the idea that someone "needs" special beverages around exercise. most people (doing most types of execise) really really don't. :)
