Taro and Yam Bean ideas

I have just purchased my first ever Taro and yam bean (jicama) and have no idea what to do with either of them.

The girl in the fruit and veg shop said to use the taro like potato and the yam bean like water chestnut

Does that sound reasonable?

No clue about taro. I feel like I've had it in Hawaii, but no memory of how it was prepared. Jicama is great peeled, cut into sticks with a little chili powder, salt and lime. You can add cucumber and red bell peppers cut the same way for some great color. Some people cook jicama but I never have.
