Sunflower seed oil bad, Sunflower seed butter good?

I believe this is due to things that happen to the seed oils at higher temperatures, although I haven't made it that far yet. I would imagine that the butter would be at the "limit" end of the fats,

If you put nuts or seeds in a food processor and grind and grind and grind...you end up with _____ butter. In order to make ________ oil they have to highly process the seeds using high heat and essentially ruin the nutritional quality of the nut/seed.

If I can make a "product" at home (such as sunbutter or almond milk) then it is not the same processed stuff that you buy in the grocery store. For example I can make almond milk at home and it has almonds and water...Almond breeze almond milk has a whole bunch of other ingredients that are not compliant (how will I know what I feel like without the processed stuff if I never give it up?).

I expect if you could make sunflower oil at home like you can make sunbutter...it would be W30 compliant but since I believe products like that are actually made in a lab it would be impossible to replicate the process at home.

Cheers,

T

Nico - you've got it! We recommend you limit sunflower oil because, as a seed oil, it tends to be higher in the fats that can be inflammatory and bad things happen to it when you heat it. If you're able to find cold pressed, and you're willing to use it cold, enjoy it in moderation :)
