aph
It seems somewhere I read Melissa's recommendations for good degree programs that are offered in the more Paleo approach to nutrition. Does anyone know where I can find those? Or does anyone else have any input? I am not interested at all in pursuing the typical RD program, as I can't imagine wanting to waste my time on the "food pyramid" approach to dietetics! Thanks! katieisrunningcrazy
Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington has a more holistic, whole-foods approach to health and nutrition. I am planning on transferring there next fall for either BA in Health Psychology or Integrative Biology. They have many awesome courses, as well as electives in herbs and tinctures, yoga, tai chi, healing with food, etc etc...Highly suggest checking them out if you are interesting, they have a great Naturopathic Doctor program. MamaDrew
Does anyone have any experience with Integrative Nutrition? It's a school out of New York but they offer an on-line Health & Wellness Coaching certification program.
CAK911
I don't know about that specific program, but I will say be VERY careful to check for accreditation or other indicators of credibility for programs. If there's a licensing board or professional organization, you want to find a program that is recognized by that organization. A lot of online education is unregulated or very loosely regulated. There are some really great programs, but also some that are cash cows for the university and very low value for students. Basically, look for markers of credibility from sources that aren't the university or program itself.

CAK911
Not for nutrition. I just work in higher ed, and there are some really shady things happening right now; there have been some pushes for regulation, particularly for for-profit educational institutions, since they're usually the offenders. The two certifications I'm seeing for nutrition are Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) or the Academy of Sports Dietitians and Nutritionists (AASDN). I would also, generally, recommend nonprofit schools or universities over for-profit ones, and again look at rankings of programs and other sources of information. U.S. News and World Report does a LOT of those kinds of rankings.
