Explain the weight loss physiology to me?

Hi, I'm on day 8 and it's been going great. I've been reading and researching as much as I can (but didn't get the book yet. I took the "start today" pretty literally and haven't gotten to read that yet). But I'm curious if anyone can explain why we could lose weight on this diet? And if we do lose weight, do we assume that our body is reacting to one of those inflamitory foods, and if we figure out which one after the W30 then we can eat a moderate Paleo lifestyle with that food excluded and be good to go (and perhaps not gain the weight back)?

I know we aren't supposed to weigh ourselves, but I'm committed to this either way (and I've felt good and enjoyed the food so there would be no reason for me to stop, unless I just got tired of cutting vegetables!). So I weighed myself this am and I'm down 5 pounds. In a week. Honestly, that freaked me out a bit. Is it water weight? Is it ok to lose weight that fast? My husband is doing it with me and he's lost 6. And we are eating tons of food, trying to follow the meal plan as much as possible. (I do have about 15-20 pounds to lose, at least, 3 kids worth of baby weight! :)). I don't expect to keep losing at this rate, either. Right?

Thanks for your help! I know this is a lot of questions!

We ask you not to weigh because it messes with your mind and gets in the way of simply eating nourishing food and letting the magic happen.

People lose weight for different reasons, but a common one is that when you eat only real, whole meats, veggies, fruit, and healthy fats, your body is nourished, you are satisfied, and you don't eat more than you need.

Early weight loss is often water as the bloat from grains and dairy goes away quickly. You probably won't lose as much weight the second week, but don't keep weighing. Honestly, monitoring your weight interferes with your hormones. The more you worry about it, the slower things happen.

The foods we ask you to avoid for 30 days make you less healthy whether you suffer obvious symptoms when you eat them or not. You might decide to leave out permanently only the ones you discover provoke obvious symptoms, but some of us decide to stay on the healthy foods road trip and eat off-plan foods only very occasionally. Now is not the time to make those decisions, but you will make your own choice when the time comes.

What Tom said ...

Plus this isn't voodoo magic.... Whole foods are nutrient dense and anti inflammatory ( mostly)= healing= hormonal balance = eating bigger portions with fewer wasted calories =saity= weight loss....

Just try to get out of a fast food place foor under 1200 empty, inflammitory calories and not be hungry an hour or two later and having to get a giant latte frappe maciado chino and a muffin just to hold you over ..... I really know people that are starving all day and they are consuming 5000+ calories, that just don't satisfy

Sounds like you are doing great!! Keep it up and don't stress.... Just know that you are getting healthier by the meal.... :)

Thanks so much for your advice! OK, I'll try to stop weighing myself. Actually, that's not really why I'm doing this, I have several things I'd like to see if it help. Honestly, if I only lost 5 pounds for the month I'd be blown away.

I guess I'm a little confused because I'm actually eating more calories now (I'm not counting but I spent so many years counting I almost can't help but just know), maybe even 500+ more. I'm wondering if it has to do with the infalmation healing/hormone/thyroid balencing. But obviously way to early to know what now. I came from the "nourishing/whole foods" camp so when I ate bread, it was soaked ww, and I cultured my own kefir, etc (which is why I had no detox symptoms last week, I'm guessing). But obviously my body is reacting to this differently still. I am very intrigued! I'm happy to keep on the program and wounldn't mind it for the long term as it isn't that radical from how we ate before. But you're right, I'll wait to decide that until later.

Thanks again!!!
