Franklyn Silverphorque
Can someone explain to me what buckwheat does to the GI system? I've read a lot about it and everything states that it is a fruit seed and not related to wheat. What's the deal with it? Thank you!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 19, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 19, 2013 I can't find anything about how buckwheat functions in the GI tract, though that may be a function of my research limitations and not an absence of information. You are right that buckwheat is a different animal than wheat and other grains, but for the purposes of the Whole30, buckwheat is lumped in with grains. The Whole9 calls it a similarly-structured pseudo-cereal. Maybe buckwheat causes gut problems, maybe it doesn't. In any case, during a Whole30, we want you to become comfortable living on meat, vegetables, fruit, and healthy fats and to distance your diet from anything like grains and the foods they make.
