Taking food through TSA security at airport?

I have to make a day trip to DC soon and wonder what people have had success bringing through security checkpoints when flyiing? I know my colleague has brought bagels and baby carrots through. I've never tried to bring food with me because I don't know what's allowed.

I will be out of my own control of food choices from 5AM until about 8PM. I hope to be able to pack home-made beef jerky, carrots, macadamia nuts, coconut flakes. I'm wondering about tuna in a baggie (not can) and hard boiled eggs. I may be able to get decent food where I am going but I don't want to bank on it. Any suggestions? Please help!

I've been able to bring hard boiled eggs and bagged meat; I'd imagine bagged tuna would be similar. I often bring chicken that I've cooked myself at home and then frozen in a ziplock bag overnight so that it simply thaws, and doesn't spoil, during travel.

I carry all kinds of food (I travel by air a lot in the fall and spring every year).

I buy tuna in pouches (Wild Planet makes one without water) that make it through security, no problem. Any raw veggie or fruit should be fine. Nuts are fine. Almond butter packets are also fine. I also took a 100 cal pack of Wholly Guacamole through once because I wanted to eat my lunch on the other side of the security checkpoint and no one batted an eyelash. Though, that one seemed to be pushing the envelope a bit, so I wouldn't count on it. Hard boiled eggs, meat/veggie roll-ups and salads are fine too if you plan to eat them rather quickly (ie, no refrigeration).

I also carry a leak proof container of olive oil and vinegar in my 1 quart toiletry bag so that I'm never without a compliant dressing option.
