dianavuong
I'm lucky enough to have a Penzey's a couple of blocks away from where I work. I stopped by there the other day to pick up some new spices and to update the old that's been sitting around for longer than I can remember. I was being pretty thorough with looking at all of the ingredients on all the spices and seasonings, making sure there was no sugar in them. I came across their Smoky 4S Seasoning Salt, which smelled absolutely delicious.. I picked up a jar and sprinkled them on some baked sweet potato fries before they went into the oven. After eating my meal and cleaning up, I checked the jar again and low and behold, sugar was listed as the third ingredient. DOH!!! How did I miss that?! I was so sure I was being careful. I was angry with myself but it's a lesson learned. Double check and even triple check ingredient lists before you use it! I guess when you've been reading a ton of ingredients lists, your eyes sometimes can glaze over and it's easy to miss. Yesterday was Day 15 for me and since it wasn't intentional and a sprinkle of the spices probably didn't contain a whole lot of sugar, I'm gonna let it pass and not start my W30 over. BTW, I noticed on some of the spices that "oleoresin of basil (or some other herb)" listed in the ingredients. Is this compliant? I tried to research it and it seems like it's okay. Renee Lee
Definitely let it slide. It's not going to set you back. Salt will add sugar/dextrose to help with clumping, not to actually make it sweet...but it's still crazypants. But yeah...definitely be careful of penzey's blends. MANY of them have sugar hiding in them.
