New to Whole 30, restored hope

Hi, I'm new to whole30, but not to many of the principles of eating healthy fats, grass fed meat, plenty of organic vegetables. I have studied and tried to incorporate the info of Weston A Price, which is basically traditional whole foods. But I keep slipping from the better choices back to the convenience of eating out and the slippery slope of "just one chocolate." I have been down many different roads of dietary instruction. Making my own whole grain bread, vegetarianism, now fermenting and organ meats. Most recently two weeks on GAP trying to start healing my gut and restore health after years of antibiotics. I was going to stay on Gaps but came across this site. In some ways it's stricter, no honey or raw cream. But I'm drawn to the time frame, the reevaluation, the testimonies, and forum. So, here goes. I hope to lose weight, get off my very low dose of blood pressure medicine, get rid of constant UTIs, joint pain, sinus headaches. And get rid of food addiction to carbs! I haven't read the book yet, but is on order. Raw dairy is very different from pasteurized. Is any distinction made in the raw food guidelines? Glad to see kombucha is ok.

I think you will find the resources here very valuable, and the interior lessons have for me been quite interesting and really good. Like you, I've had long-standing health problems, so am just past the 30-day mark and going on to complete a Whole 60. What I'm finding is the sadness of losing the ability to not pay attention to what I eat has been marked and pretty hard. But on balance, so much worth it. And being able to come to this forum and talk about that kind of issue as well as whatever physical experiences you have is really great. It's a world of difference from any other food plan that I've ever encountered (although there are for sure people who are almost solely focused on the body issues and the orthodoxy of the Whole 30, which for me hasn't been the primary issue or problem--I find eating this way to be natural and pleasurable, so I don't get stuck on that much at all).

Good luck to you and keep it going! It isn't as easy as pie, but on the other hand, it's a lot easier than pie. :-)

I too am a Weston Price member, so I understand where you are coming from.

I think the important thing to remember is that the whole30 is a kind of "reset" program. While some may choose to stay within its strictures for a lifetime, it is not necessary to do so. The idea is to take out the foods mostly to cause problems with autoimmunity and metabolic derangement, allow the body to heal and reset itself, and then to cautiously re-introduce foods one at a time, observing how one's body reacts.

It's like eliminating static on a telephone line so you can hear the message.

I never once thought I had an issue with dairy, but my sleeping bowel woke up when I eliminated it. I'd never have guessed. And the only dairy I ate was yogurt I cultured myself from local, organic whole raw milk!
