Day 11 and depressed

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right forum for this topic but I'm posting it here anyway. I've got a pretty big story but in a nutshell.... A little background... I had a gastric bypass 12 years ago and lost 100 pounds. Started gaining weight back so I joined WW and lost what I had gained. I still didn't feel good though. Then I went Vegan and it was a God send at the time. Instant weight loss, glowing skin, piping energy....then my family and I moved from California to the Midwest 6 months ago and I was almost forced back into eating (local) meat. During these 6 months I got really sick with food intolerances. I was already lactose intolerant so no dairy for a long time. But somewhere along the line I THINK I became allergic to wheat/yeast/oats and possibly beans. Every single day I get doubled over in pain. I have massive (looks like I'm pregnant) bloating, gut swelling, severe gas, "dumping syndrome" associated with having the gastric bypass and just general body inflammation. Enter Whole30. So I read ISWF and it gave me hope. I felt out of control and sick. I can't handle fattening food, too much sugar either so all of these things have been aiding in my problems. Anyway, I am on Day 11. Yesterday I had to work late and I needed a snack. I opted for some of my farm fresh turkey sticks and a larabar. Today, I am bloated, tired and I feel very sick. I almost threw up my breakfast and I've been nauseous all day! I don't know if they are the culprit but today I feel discouraged. I so desperately want to lose these 9 pounds from "moving to the Midwest" and get rid of all these terrible problems! These past 11 days have been good. I have been right on track as far as what ISWF says I will feel like, until today. I'm sleeping so good. My energy has been more even keel and up until today I haven't had ANY stomach problems at all!! I guess I just need a pep talk. I've been beating myself up over eating 3 servings of fruit (with meals) a day as well as eating prunes... I froze the almond butter after the third day. That stuff is a gateway drug! LOL Any words of advice or encouragement would be so very appreciated. I live in a very rural place. An Indian reservation to be exact and I don't have any friends. All my healthy, workout friends are back home. I just have my two boys (2 years and 4 years old) and my husband who thankfully are on board with all this ten fold. Thank you in advance. :)

Reyna, I'm going to move this into Troubleshooting for you.

a) AWESOME job losing 100lbs. Even with the gastric bypass, that's a huge accomplishment, especially keeping it off for 12 years! Congrats!

B) Gastric bypass, especially 12 years ago, definitely messes with your body's ability to digest foods. Even if you didn't have a done of issues previously, any little trigger can set off a cascade of intolerance issues.

Having this problem sneak back after a lara bar makes me think it's either a nut issue or more likely the big fructose bomb from the dried fruit.

Sounds like you're doing a great job with the program and the lara bar was just not something your system was ready for.

Hang in there!

Thank you, Renee!! Overall I really love Whole30. I'm satiated then I've EVER been! When I was Vegan, I was either having to eat constantly or was WANTING to eat constantly. It was insane. I did feel good though. Yes, I think I have an issue with the dried fruit. Sugar and me have a love/hate relationship. I can handle regular fruit ok but the more I eat of it the more I crave it. I'm really trying to limit my intake to just the two servings. I highly doubt it's the nuts. I can eat them and I just love them...too much! LOL! I'm really just trying to find a balance and I'm working so hard at this. I don't want to fail.

Is it just today you've been having symptoms? Maybe you just have a stomach bug! I used to get those when I was a kid: for 24 hours I'd be feeling like death and couldn't keep anything down and then the next day I was totally fine. No relation to anything I ate, just bad luck catching a germ :(

I was going to say, there are some awful stomach bugs still going around this year - maybe you caught one if the symptoms just started today. Or, maybe it was the Larabar. Those things make me feel like crap, but that usually happens within the hour of eating it...

Thanks, guys! I definitely feel better today. I'm certain it was the dried fruit in the Larabars. TMI but I'm all cleaned out today! Note to self!! I love that this is such a learning process for me and an opportunity to just get better. Ive got 18 days left and I know its gonna be awesome! :)
