Xandra
So my son has an intestinal bug, probably norovirus, and while he can now keep water and food down, he still has some bad diarrhea. The common dietary recommendations for this are BRATY: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and yogurt. I can do the bananas and applesauce for him, but I wondered what other foods you might suggest to get his digestive system back under control. Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 23, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 23, 2013 Sweet potato for fiber and kombucha and sauerkraut for probiotics. If he is not accustomed to kombucha and sauerkraut, these should be consumed in small quantities.
Susan W
I have not heard the "y" addition. Typically, any dairy is a bit hard. I rarely say this but white rice seems to sooth a stomach. It plugs up which is what you want.

CarolinaJ85
At least in the US, the BRAT diet has been disproven in multiple studies- it is not helpful. Plenty of fluids and early reintroduction of typical foods is key. As a pediatrician, only my older colleagues who aren't up on the latest literature still recommend it. Eat what you want- if it is broth, eat broth. If it's a salad, eat salad
