Lini May
I've started my second Whole30, and this time round I've actually purchased ISWF and read through the research. My question is in regard to the "fasting" and yet not snacking.. I currently work 10hr days with at least an hours commute.. So in reality, I'm up and having breakfast at 5.30am, I don't get to eat lunch until noon, and then it is 7.30pm before I can get home and get dinner on the table. In short, my body isn't coping with such long period inbetween meals.. by the time I get home at 6, i'm absolutely ravenous and would eat my firstborn! Can I have something in between these times to supplement my meals? and if so, what would be the best thing to eat? I've occasionally had a piece of fruit between meals, but this sometimes brings out the mega sugar cravings once I get home.. Would protein be better? (like, tuna or something?) Fenderbender
Absolutely eat a mini meal.... Follow the template and just cut back the portion..... You don't want to starve... I am in the same boat as you several days a week so I do a one Tupperware meal like leftover chicken salad mixed with avocado, and celery, peppers, shredded greens,a sprinkle of macadamias....... Easy to eat at your desk or in the parking lot.... You can even pre stuff it in lettuce leaves so you don't even need a fork.... I find I can turn just about any left over protein into a yummy salad with avacado!!!
missmary
I have a similar schedule (well, the lunch and dinner parts, since i wait for meal #1 until after my workout). I USED to be ravenous every evening if I didn't snack, not now that I've been eating this way for a year or so, I find I don't need a snack any more. So, yeah. If you are hungry, have a mini meal, but be aware that eating this way may make it possible to forgo the snack once you have your portions dials and become better fat adapted. notacommittee
I just got done having that problem! I had a fridge so my go-to favorites were just some leftover meat and veggies (made it feel much less snacky so it didn't really trigger cravings), but you could also do cans of fish (sardines, tuna, etc.) with some veggies in a baggie. At school when I didn't have a fridge, I used to just bring food right out of the freezer, so it would defrost during the day and by the time I was ready to eat it, it would be still chilly but not gone bad.
