BW_TTU
I've been meaning to register on here and introduce myself and have kept putting it off. Time flies and now I'm a week from completing my Whole30! This has been a great experience. It has been challenging but that's made it even more rewarding. I'm excited about completing my Whole30 and can't wait to continue my journey of eating better. The second day was a challenge (had a headache etc.) but from then on I've felt better than I have in years. Even with a 3 month old making sure her mom and I don't sleep too much I've had more energy throughout the day than I have in years. I've struggled with eating right and losing weight for most of my life. The final straw came a few weeks ago when we took my daughter to the Dr. for her 2 month checkup. He mentioned that we'd start giving her solid foods soon and it hit me. If I eat like crap like I have been then she's going to grow up eating like crap and I'm not letting that happen. I stumbled on the Whole30 son after and it's one of the best things that's happened to me. I'm so thankful for this program and the book "It Starts with Food". I have a pretty big obstacle coming up that I'd like some input on if anyone can offer some suggestions. My last day of THIS Whole30 (I see more in my future) is a week from tomorrow but between now and then is Easter. My wife and I have plans to go have dinner with her family at her grandma's house Saturday evening. This will definitely NOT be a Whole30 compliant meal so I have a problem. The way I see it I can either eat before and eat nothing or eat nothing then eat after (don't like this idea because it would mean eating pretty late). They're country folks (we're all from Texas) and sitting down to a family meal and not eating anything for any reason will definitely NOT go over well. Hopefully this sounds familiar to some others on here. I really don't want to break my Whole30 this close to the finish but I'm wondering if I just eat a few veggies (they'll almost certainly have butter in them in some form) and maybe a little ham (surely will contain some sugar) just so it looks like I'm eating with everyone if that would be "okay". I guess I already know the answer but hopefully someone will have some suggestions on how to handle this in a polite way. Explaining the concept of the Whole30 will be like speaking Greek to these folks. I'm thinking about just faking sick so it won't be so weird that I don't eat but lying to my wife's grandma the day before Easter doesn't feel right for some reason LOL! Thanks for any and all advice and I look forward to learning more from this forum. BW
Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 27, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 27, 2013 I would probably eat meat and veggies at grandma's house and enjoy it. I might even have some pie if it looks good. You can start another Whole30 when you don't have any events to worry about. I am saying this as someone who has eaten Whole30-compliant most of the past 3 years. It is not like this is the only 30 days period you will ever get.
BW_TTU
Thank you for the reply. I guess being my first time going through this and really wanting to prove I could do this the right way and follow through 100% it had me a little worked up. Keianna
Is it possible for you to bring a compliant meat and ask if some veggies could be steamed? You could also say you gave up sugar for Lent and want to make it through the whole day of Easter as well.
LoisH99
I, too, have been debating about how to handle Easter at someone else's house. I think I will offer to bring an appetizer and/or salad and/or side dish. And keep my fingers crossed that they serve fresh ham instead of smoked ham!
