Jami
I have read on the forum that costco has organic chicken and meat. Does this mean it is free of antibiotics and hormones? Does this meat and poultry qualify under whole 30. What about the whole 30 requirements for grass fed and cage free? I am going to a local butcher and am paying a lot of money so I wanted to check alternate sources.
Sharon Simpson Thumann
It is not required, but suggested, that you buy the best meats and vegetables that you can afford, so while grass-fed, pastured animals are the best it is not a requirement and will not ruin your Whole30. Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 27, 2013 Moderators Share Posted March 27, 2013 What Sharon said. And, you have to read the labels on packages because vendors sell some varieties that are okay and some that are not. I have a history in the grocery business, so analyzing product lines is something I just do some days. I have seen vendors selling 50 products with only 2 or 3 of them meeting Whole30 guidelines. It is kind of a pain to find the healthy products in the mass of additive riddled ones, but once you find them, you can keep buying them regularly. jennrider
I but chicken and ground beef at Costco. It's free of hormones and antibiotics, but not grass fed or pasture raised. I'm feeding 7 people. That's the best I can afford. The changes in our household have been enormous. That can't be discounted just because our protein is not the highest quality available. Guest
I try to limit my use of the bones, fat, and organs if it is not grassfed and organic, but those are rare finds around here. Happily, my body prefers coconut oil. Some of us have to get what we can and I am thrilled when I can get to Costco!
