First Whole 30 - Day 4

Started my first Whole 30 four days ago, and so far so good! I've been diagnosed with gastritis and IBS, suffering from almost daily stomach aches with occasionally intense pain that leaves me in curled up in bed. But for the first time in years, I haven't felt anything but either hungry or full in the last four days - starting to feel human again. Well, maybe not "again" because now I'm not sure that I ever did!

Just saw your post. That is fabulous news.

I just started day 4 and I am seeing some good digestive system responses too.

I have IBS but don't suffer like you do with cramping and pain. But in the last year - it's really affected my life. Plus I'm a colon cancer survivor - I so want to change how I eat but I have not been able to successfully. I am hopeful that W30 will start me on the right path.

Are you following the basic Whole30 or did you add modifications?

How have the last few days been?

I haven't made any modifications, but I might going forward. In the past, broccoli and spinach have given me major problems. Since I've been feeling so much better, a couple nights ago I went for it - stir fried some broccoli with garlic, olive oil and lime juice. Delicious, but yikes... I was in pain afterwards. I know the book recommends that people w/ stomach problems make sure to really cook greens like broccoli to avoid any discomfort/pain. I may wait a while before I try broccoli again, and next time I'll cook it waaaay down.

Aside from this one incident, I've felt fabulous and haven't made any other modifications.

I've seen some people shop the broccoli very small. Others mention they have issues with garlic. Ack. Very complicated to figure out. I am trying to keep a log so I can figure out what is bothering me. Today was a pretty good day. It was day 6.

I hope tomorrow is fabulous!

Hi, keeping a food log is one of the best things you can do. It can really help show up which foods might be giving you problems. For what it's worth, it took my digestive system a while to settle down but my IBS has improved out of sight. I don't even think about it now and pre W30 I used to never, ever leave the house without medication on hand. Good luck both of you and keep us posted how you get on.

So, I got throught the stomach virus in one day and I can't believe how quickly I got back to normal. I really starting to see how much the food I eat affects all the areas of my life. I like this feeling and look forward to watching more positive changes develope. Here's to day 18!

Thanks to everyone who updates their status, it keeps me motivated :)
