jillmick
Ok I know that sounds weird, but seriously...oh my gosh. After having 3 kids back to back, my periods have always been really heaving with so much bloating and cramps the first few days. I'm on day 17 of my first Whole 30 and just got over my period. Umm it was amazing. It was SO light and fast with no cramps or bloating!!! I'm in shock. And to top it off I feel like the "magic" may have officially kicked in. I finally have this clear, steady energy. Maybe not so much to run a marathon (getting there) but enough to not need to collapse around 4pm anymore for a nap. I actually want go to the gym after I put the kids down around 8pm. I could go on, but I just wanted to write this in case I could be of encouragement to anyone out there struggling like I was or questioning starting a Whole 30. I'm FINALLY becoming one of those people I've only ever read about. For the first time in my life (not exaggerating) I'm starting to feel freedom in my relationship with food and my body. It's just the start, but I'm feeling like I may be hooked already to this new way of eating. I honestly never knew I could feel & look so great without starving myself. After feeling very hopeless for so long, I feel like I'm finally taking a deep sigh of relief. Wow..didn't mean to ramble on like this!!! Link to comment
laurakcity
I am so glad to hear this. I was JUST coming to the forums to do some research to see what I was in for next week when I get my first period of my first whole30. Mine are usually short and light, but I have horrible cramps, craving and bloating. Hopefully I will have the same experience as you! Link to comment
Eliza
That happened to me too. Best period ever. I always have to take one or two pain pills every period. If not I can't function. This time I took none!! I had so little pain its crazy. I really can't believe it. This Whole30 thing is really somethin' Link to comment
annashand
Funny, I wanted to see if this phenomenon was whole30 related! I'm on day 23 and started my period 3 days ago. I usually have a super-crampy, super-heavy (crime-scene heavy) first day or two and then a few days that aren't so bad. This time, I've had no cramps and my flow (ugh, could there be a more awful word?) has been light to moderate. I've literally NEVER had a period like this--if this is what I have to look forward to, I'm sticking with this well past day 30! Link to comment
EnJay
OMG - just realizing that I didn't have to load up on Aleve for the first day of my period this month - and I JUST started the Whole30 (3 days in). No bloat either. Who knew? (Clearly, SOMEBODY knew. ;o) ) Link to comment
bookworm05
I know this topic is old, but OMG I think I'm experiencing this too. After a few days of heavy spotting it turned into my period (I think). It looks like that's what it is but it's so light I can't believe it's true. No PMS (minus the spotting), no breast pain, no cramps, no bloating. WTF??? I get painful and really heavy periods all the time. I pop Midol like it's nobody's business. I'm actually so confused. If this is my period it's amazing. It can come back and visit me anytime. raptah
I'm in the same boat. Six days early, thought it was spotting, but think its my period. No bloating, no crankiness, no cramps. No tenderness in my breasts which was really my worst symptom because I am a runner and I would have such pain when I ran. This time, nothing! It's amazing. Link to comment
bookworm05
The only issue I had with this period was unpredictability! I'm a runner too and about 8 miles into my 10 miler yesterday morning things...picked up and my Diva Cup could not contain them. I made a quick stop at a washroom and was surprised (and not pleasantly) by what had happened. I felt so great on day 4 that it didn't even occur to me that could be an issue as normally really crampy = heavy flow for me. If this keeps up I'll have to get a better handle on my warning system because lasting through my run shouldn't have been an issue on day 4. But still, no cramps has been glorious and according to my Period Tracker app I'm back on averaging a 28 day cycle again. Link to comment
Guest Annie B
Well, I was going to start a topic, and I can now see that I don't have to! Periodically when I have had extra stress, or have been having too much alcohol or caffeine, I will have severe cramps followed by a fainting episode, just before I start my cycle and always first thing in the morning. Good times. The docs say it just my natural low BP combined with dehydration, etc blah blah blah. I have always thought that was a cop out answer. Last month, I had an episode... and was really fed up with the whole situation (as I lay on the floor in my grandmother-in-law's bathroom where we were staying). I knew I had been indulging too much (frequency) and needed a detox of sorts. So it is a big part of what spurred me to go ahead and try the whole30 (after a year of knowing about it). This month, I had almost no breast tenderness, and very little pms, and no pms cramps what so ever. After I started, I did have some bloating and mild cramping, but totally manageable. I believe the alcohol has been depriving my body of much needed nutrients, even with my already high quality eating habits. And some how or another sugar has to play a role, because I definitely have had sugar issues my whole life. Anyway, this last few weeks, along with the increase in protein and fat (lots and lots of fat!) I have increased my salt intake (sea salt of course)... and I think that has also played a part in maintaining BP and digestion. I have always heard that women in 'natural' cultures don't have pms symptoms... could it be that the SAD (standard american diet) is to blame? I have to think so. At any rate, I am very motivated to reduce my chances of passing out. Link to comment
