nisham
So I have noticed joint pain in my knees since I have started the program. I had not experience this beforehand, and the workout I do is low impact (pilates). I did some research online, and I found that eliminating nightshades (tomatoes, bell peppers, and other peppers) can help with this (similar advice given to those with arthritis). I'm 30 years old, so I don't think it's arthritic, I'm pretty sure it's due to Whole30. I also read about taking Omega-3 supplements. I have cut out tomatoes and bell peppers (maybe had 2-3 meals with it) in the last week, and I think it's slightly better, but not significantly better. I'm going to give it some more time. I haven't taken Omega 3 supplements yet. Has any experienced similar issues? If so, how did you resolve it?
Tavia
I am 24 and also had knee/joint pain my first week or two of whole30. It went away and I haven't felt it since (in fact I forgot about it until I read this post)! I'm sure it had a lot to do with how inflamed my joints were pre-w30. nisham
Thanks! It's been a few weeks for me, and I haven't been totally compliant. I've just been trying to prep my body with 1-3 meals a week that aren't completely compliant. I guess I'll keep monitoring and see. Thanks! Anyone else have experience with this? BananaFannaFoFynn
I am having a similar issue. Granted, I had knee issues before- I had an inflamed tendon in my left knee. I had physical therapy, cut back on weight lifting during recovery, etc... I thought I had pretty much recovered as I have been able to do more now (up until last week) than I could prior to my injury. Starting last week, my knees have been very stiff. I have had poor range of movement before having discomfort, and child's pose is incredibly painful (enough to make my eyes water)!!! Last night I couldn't do my Turkish get-ups with a bell... And, I was shocked that it was my "good knee" having the most issues. I do eat a lot of peppers, but I think I should cut back. I am limited on what veggies I can eat due to thyroid issues and sulfur allergy... So, at this point I am wondering what I CAN eat. I already elevate my legs when I sleep. I can go back to post workout icing. I had had put away the leukotape, but I may consider picking up a knee brace.
areldi
I've been having sore knees too but hadn't related it to Whole 30 because my food hasn't changed much (been mostly paleo for a year or so). Stretching and foam rolling has been helping me - I think my pain is because muscles (quads and/or ITB?) have tightened up and are stopping the knee cap moving properly. I don't know if that helps at all but good luck with finding something that does.
