annabel
I was super excited to find pickled beetroot in Morrisons that didn't have sugar as an added ingredient. However, it does have spirit vinegar which, according to Wikipedia, is made from either "cane sugar or chemically produced acetic acid". (The sugar content in the beetroot is no more than there would be in ordinary beetroot) I have read what It Starts With Food has to say about vinegar, but I just want to make sure that spirit vinegar isn't some British thing that they'd just never considered. Kirsteen
Nope that sounds fine. The only things to avoid in vinegars are 'malt vinegar' because it contains gluten and added sulphites, naturally occurring ones are ok. So beetroot in spirit vinegar looks great.
