Joell Calcagno
We are on our fourth day of the Whole30, and yesterday my almost 5 yr old daughter was very emotional, weak and slept most of the day. This morning my 8 yr old son woke up crying, calling me from upstairs. He said he was too weak to get out of bed. No fever, but very weak. I made him some eggs, and he at some, then my husband came home with a lara bar, which made him feel much better. Is this something I should be concerned with? There are plenty of fruits and veggies available all day, meat to snack on too. They are acting like they are starving all of the time. Renee Lee
What was their diet like before? It sounds like they could be going through the carb flu that the timeline talks about, especially if a larabar made him feel better. Being kids, they express their discomfort differently, so this may just be their way of getting through it. You're doing all the right things. Give them as much of the good stuff as they want/need. Start with protein, fill the rest of the plate with veggies, add some fat. If your kids are particularly active, in sports or gymnastics or something, you should definitely make many of these carb sources starchy, like carrots and sweet potatoes. Joell Calcagno
Thank you for your response. They were always eating whole grain cereals, pastas, pancakes/waffles etc. We have always given them tons of fruits and veggies, but also tons of carbs.
