Starting today - April 7th!

After hearing Melissa on a Smarter Science of Slim podcast, I downloaded the book and read it over spring break. I've planned and prepped and I'm ready to go. I am excited to see there are others with similar start dates and I'm looking forward to see what I can learn about my body and my relationship with food over the next 30 days.

Hi all. I started yesterday (7th April) and made it through the day safely, albeit with a stinking sugar hangover - a headache of epic proportions! I was organised enough last week to download recipes from the Foodee Project, print my grocery list and buy all my supplies ahead of time, so I could slow-cook a beef stew and get other things ready!

Breakfast was beef sausage and 2 fried eggs and a coffee with coconut milk; lunch was beef stew with roasted winter vegetables, and dinner was a paleo guacamole burger with coleslaw (made with homemade olive oil mayo)! I had to snack on some strawberries and a handful of cashews mid-afternoon to ease my headache, but otherwise snack-free. So far so good!

We started April 6, almost the same as you all. It hasn't been bad so far - after eating up (or freezing) a bunch of temptations the previous week, we were looking forward to eating better!

The family's favorite meal has been crock pot spice-rubbed pork roast with green beans and slow-baked sweet potatoes (no butter needed!).

For breakfast, along with eggs, I have enjoyed shredded sweet potatoes and onions, sauteed in coconut oil - a bit sweet which is pleasant at breakfast. The beef stew for breakfast sounds really good! We might also try white fish for breakfast if we get sick of eggs - it is a common breakfast food in many countries, but new to me.

For school lunches, I was pleased to discover that Trader Joe's spicy Italian chicken sausages apparently have all good ingredients... I'm hoping to win over my children and keep it positive, and they all said they would like this lunch - http://nomnompaleo.com/post/30523413645/a-week-of-paleo-school-lunches-part-5-of-5 - so that is their first lunch of the week. It's harder to find acceptable lunch meat (cold cuts), but I'm sure it exists somewhere!

My meal strategy is to rotate through 6 familiar dinners each week and add one new recipe on Fridays - just for the month - and have a similar schedule for breakfasts & lunches. I usually want to cook something new and creative most nights, but this will hopefully help me not to think about food all day every day! I would love to simplify in that way.

Monday - roasted veggies and fish

Tuesday - burgers and guacamole, salad

Wednesday - spaghetti squash with ground beef & tomato sauce (this sauce is SO good! http://www.brokeandhealthy.com/classic-tomato-sauce-aka-italian-gravy-51), salad

Thursday - crock pot spice-rubbed whole chicken, green vegetable, baked sweet potatoes (make stock afterwards)

Friday - [Try a new recipe!]

Saturday - crock pot spice-rubbed pork roast, veggies from the farm

Sunday - crock pot veggie-chicken soup with Thursday's stock and leftover chicken, salad

We've only been through 2 days though, so we'll see how it goes!

I started yesterday too! Batteling a headache today (not sure if it is from lack of sugar, coffee,... ) Also have a horrible taste in my mouth. I am trying to drink more water and now have some spearmint tea to try to get the yucky taste to go away. So glad to see others starting on the same date as me!

Hi everyone!

I started Whole30 yesterday (April 7), so today is day 2!

My co-worker started earlier this month and I've been so encouraged by her that I decided to give it a whirl!

Yesterday wasn't too bad...I had a lack of caffeine headache (I usually drink coffee with creamer and I quit cold turkey), but I decided to give some English Breakfast Tea a shot and my headache was gone!

Breakfast is going to prove to be the most difficult challenge for me because I don't normally eat in the morning, I had coffee instead. Lucky for me I get farm fresh eggs and they have been wonderful!

Looking forward to looking and feeling better!

Oh and by the way, if you don't get the daily e-mail...you should, it's awesome!

Day 3 and I'm doing okay. I had the worst of it on Day 1 - headache, body aches, etc. Yesterday and today are not so bad - I feel tired and a bit lethargic, but no worse than usual. Food today:

Breakfast - coffee with coconut milk; scrambled eggs and chicken sausage

Lunch - leftover beef and mushroom stew with roasted winter vegetables and boiled egg

Dinner - Chicken and butternut squash mash; coconut chai tea

Michele Rutherford, you saw it too! Michele with one L starting on lucky number 7! It must be a sign for success!! I feel so much better this morning than I did the last 2 days. I psyche myself out for the headaches and fatigue by celebrating the death of the poison that is seeping out. It works for me. But I like when that feeling I gone. (I went through if for cigarettes a thousand years ago, wheat about a year ago, and sugar a bunch of different times) GO MICHELE ONE L!!

Maybe we can find each other on the whole 30 FB page too! Day 5!! How terrible is it that my day feels blown because my 3 eye old woke up 90 minutes before he should have? My eggs and turkey patties (that LOOK like sausage patties but are clearly NOT) were cool when I got to them and I am expressing it here so I don't act like an irrational baboon to my innocent child. After all, I am still in "kill all the things" timeline. Feel distracted mostly and can't wait for that laser mental clarity to kick in! How are you guys doing?

Hi everyone! I officially started my Whole30 April 9, though I'd been experimenting and toying with the plan for about three weeks before that. No ill effects at this point for me--I think I went through most of those last June when I started my elimination diet--cut sugar, wheat, dairy, corn, soy, peanuts, alcohol. This definitely takes it up a notch for me. Glad to see others on a similar timeline!

Is anyone keeping a log on this forum? I started one here: http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/8962-ladyms-first-whole30

Best of luck to us all!

So far so good for me. I was seriously contemplating throwing in the towel on day 3 and I cheated... I busted out the scale I had previosuly tucked away and weighed myself. I needed something to keep going and seeing a small loss was enough to keep me going.

I am starting to plan for next week. I am afraid I will get stuck in a food rut and get bored. I am the worst at meal planning and prep.

Okay so it's been a couple of days since i was here...that would be because my life was turned upside down for me when my husband came home from Washington with my 10 month old granddaughter (Aubrey). You want to talk about HARD! It's close to impossible to get anything done in the morning with her walking around, playing, etc. I thought just doing the plan was going to be difficult, but this definitely has turned it up an notch!!! I am the worst about making myself breakfast, but let me tell you feeding her oatmeal sure does make it difficult not to take a bite! Then she eats grilled cheese sandwiches and macaroni and cheese and none of these things are on the plan.

So let me tell you, day 3 of the Whole30 was day 2 of juggling making my breakfast, and lunch; getting myself ready to go to work and getting Aubrey ready to go to the babysitter. I was SO late! Anyone doing this (Michele B.) with a young child should get a gold metal!!!!

Right now I would KILL for a Diet Coke!

Oh Michele K, I will take your medal! My 4 year old has twin sisters who are 2. They are all still alive and have not been shipped off to boarding school. When one of the girls kissed me with banana bread on her mouth it was all I could do to not lick it off! And then, when I got the peanut butter and honey all over my fingers... Yah, I washed my hands. But I THOUGHT about licking my fingers! I feel a little smaller. I also am enjoying the food. Tonight I did faux garlic mashed potatoes with cauliflower and I am pretty sure I will be smelling god and garlicky for a while. Texture was more like rice but it worked for me!! Didn't hurt that my hubs grilled up a slab of organic steak. Yummmmmmm! I have my eye on the prize so there haven't been any significant cravings though I do switch back and forth about what I am going to test my body with after the cleanse. Nachos and frozen yogurt are battling it out.

Day 7 is almost over and I'm doing okay! I guess planning meals and having all the food in the pantry and fridge really helped me get through the week unscathed, although Nutella kisses from my 6 year old daughter nearly brought me under! Food today:

Breakfast - scrambled eggs and chicken sausage, coconut coffee

Lunch - Curried lamb stuffed peppers

Afternoon snack (not enough lunch) - hard-boiled egg smeared with homemade mustard mayo

Dinner - Lemon and mushroom chicken with radishes and cauliflower "rice"

One week! Whooooo hoooo! It is so hard to not get on the scale because it sure feels like smaller is happening! But I will not! I am doing this gig by the book! Noticed my skin looking remarkably better last night am that makes me jump for joy! I really have to say one specific thank you to the format of this program. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KEEP MY COFFEE!! I don't care that it's black, I just care that I have it. (I broke up with creamer about a year ago but was using stevia before this)

Okay...today is day 9 and I had more energy last week that I do right now. I wonder what I did wrong?

I can safely say that I eat better when I have to go to work than I do on the weekend?

Other than lack of energy, I have no complaints...some in my family think I'm crazy, but my gut feels great

and that's a first for me!

Today preschool sent home the leftover tortilla chips from when Miles had to bring snack to school and I had thought it was cruel and unusual punishment when they assigned me chips and salsa to begin with but they have NEVER sent it back home! And of course son wants to eat them so I have smelled them and served them and NOT licked my fingers! I am kinda bada**!! Day 11 and feeling pretty proud of myself. Got back in the gym this week even though tired in the morning. I need to figure out how to get to bed earlier because I have to hit the gym at 5 spin can be back before my husband leaves. Next goal I guess...anyway, I lifted hard yesterday and I haven't done that in a long time, like a decade! And I am ZERO sore today! Loving the details here!

2 weeks in!! How is everyone feeling? My husband keeps weighing himself (because he is just eating the food I make him, not following any of those silly rules... His words) and he has lost 9 lbs and his belly is FLAT! He is using a hole in his belt that he never has. I am using a belt too because my shorts are looking pretty gangster as they hang on my hips! I have a doc appt on Tues. they will weigh me. I don't know that I can look away! I went grocery shopping last night and was asked to get my husbands boss a cupcake for his birthday today. Went to the bakery, looked at everything. I didn't feel sad or deprived or resentful or any of the things I normally feel on a diet! Then I purposely tested myself with other things like those tortilla chips I spoke of earlier... Nothing. That is beyond amazing! Love eating real food! Even ifnitmdoes take me 3 freeways to get to Whole Foods for my ghee! (Ordering from Amazon next time!) how are you??
