stacy95
It's fresh...not the canned stuff. Boiled it with salt and pepper.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 8, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 8, 2013 Yes. Canned is okay too as long as it does not have off-plan ingredients.
MelliebuStacey
GOOD TO KNOW. I'd been avoiding them, period. Thanks OP for great question, and Tom (as always) for great answer
1Maryann
Swamp cabbage is a native vegetable to these parts. Lots of Florida cuisine calls for them. I love them! They can substitute anywhere you would use artichoke hearts, and are a lot easier and neater to prepare. Someone on here (not saying who) carries a can of hearts of palm around in her purse for 'emergency' food.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 9, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2013 I often eat salmon salad with a can of heart of palm. It is one of the vegetable staples in my pantry along with diced tomatoes, beets, and artichoke hearts.
