HannahMarie
Hey guys! I am a newbie to the Whole30 and I am on my day 9 and doing pretty well. Except I have noticed that my urine is very, very yellow. (This is my biggest concern + the clammy taste in my mouth). Obviously I know the childhood adage that I am probably not getting enough water, so this post may be moot. But I was wondering if the Whole30 veterans could shed some light? Is this is a sign that I am not hydrating enough? I have uped my water dosage, but its still happening. I have never been one of those people that's glued to their water bottle. And I am drinking sparkling water to jazz it up at the moment. Any thoughts? suggestions? I really need help with this. I am trying to train my brain to drink water instead of snack, but that is hard as well. Any advice would be great!
Samphire
B vitamins make your wee bright yellow. Have you increased the amount of meet you're eating, or recently eaten liver? Or even taken a multivitamin? B vitamins make your wee bright yellow. Have you increased the amount of meat you're eating, or recently eaten liver? Or even taken a multivitamin? Kirsteen
The only reasons I know for it to be bright yellow are either it's too concentrated i.e. you're not drinking enough, or you've taken something with B vitamins in it. Outwith that, I have no idea.
HannahMarie
I do take B vitamins occasionally; but I have been eating a lot more meat than normal since starting the Whole30. Red meats have never been a big staple of mine so increasing those has been an adjustment for my body. Could that cause my urine to be more yellow? Other than that I am continuing to intentionally hydrate; should I avoid the vitamins for now?
GLC1968
Clammy taste in your mouth and bright yellow pee points to a dehydration issue in my mind. The recommendation is half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 150 lbs you should drink 75 oz daily. Are you anywhere near close to that amount? Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 9, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2013 I weigh about 190 pounds and drink about one gallon of water per day. I don't do as well when I drink less. That works out to about 10 big glasses of water per day. I start the day by drinking 2 big glasses and then drink a 3rd glass while sitting at my desk before eating breakfast. Then I drink a 4th glass with breakfast. On days when I don't start with a lot of water, I really miss it.
Emily
When I eat spaghetti squash my urine turns bright yellow. It's different than dehydration (concentrated urine)... it doesn't have the smell and literally is a neon yellow. I think it's kind of fun. HannahMarie
Thanks for the advice, you guys. I don't drink as much water. So I need to step it up in that area. Tom, I will try your strategy. That way I get most of my glasses in early. GLC, I will divide my body weight to get the proper amount! I am glad to hear these aren't normal effects of the whole30! I think I will love it once I can fix this! Thanks again!
HannahMarie
One last ? - is sparkling/mineral water "bad" for you or just not ideal to drink the majority of the time?
Robin Strathdee
It's fine - just make sure you're getting still water, too
hojo
The book The Water Cure talks about drinking half your body weight in ounces and then balancing that with enough sodium. Its a lot of water! When i was in days 1-10 I also had that taste in my mouth....I think it part of detoxing as well IMO.
